If Norwich lose to WBA, then we're down. No points at Man City and a big defeat to make the goal difference worse than Newcastle's. Wigan will get a win over Swansea and/or Villa. A win over WBA on the other hand...
Really close to call this season. Have to say that Norwich have the worst couple of games. As long as we are safe, I hope Norwich stay up...I'd rather Sunderland, Newcastle or Wigan went down.
Have to say though that if Wigan pull it off (and they possibly won't), Norwich have it the toughest of the relegation family. Unless Newcastle lose to QPR (which would be lovely jubbly).
Not sure if Hughton can inspire a 'must win'. Lambert did it all the time for us and is doing that now with Villa.
The best we can hope for is two Wigan draws maximum. If Villa are safe, I can't see them busting a gut at Wigan. Well done on your back-to-back and return season in the Premier by the way. Thought Cortese was mad to sack Adkins.
Thought it was a tough decision and Nigel didn't deserve it, but you won't get many fans who are unhappy with Mauricio. Nigel might have kept us up, but would he have got us those wins against Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool...don't think so. Without those 9 points we would be in the mire for certain..at least it is still in our own hands.
Swansea's season may be all but over, but they're a good side, they're professionals, and they're more than capable of de-railing Wigan's late run tonight. I hope they do. No disrespect to Wigan, I'll just feel a lot happier with a four goal cushion even though I'm sure we won't go down.
all eyes on wigan tonight. Strictly speaking i should probably want wigan to lose tonight but i dont. i like wigannn. and it would be bloody funny to see Newcastle in the bottom three with 2 to play!!! ha ha, they thought they were on their way out of it after the fulham game
I'm single minded. Just want Saints safe, so Wigan to lose...no contest. Agree Newcastle would be funnier, but Wigan is our best chance.
I'm a little conflicted, I'm confident Saints will be fine anyway so not really bothered, and I like Wigan so would like them to escape really. A Wigan loss would strap nappies onto all the panicky nancies though, and it would be nice to be closer to confirmed safety even if I'm sure we can seal our own fate. I think at the end of the day I'd just like an entertaining game!
Goodbye Wigan. They now have to win both of their games to overtake Saints (assuming we get no more points ) with the next match being away to Arsenal. Four point will get them level on 39 but they won't be able to make up the goal difference. I can't see them winning both matches but I will be a bit nervous if they win at the Emirates!
If they win at the Emirates I'd be wetting the bed again, we need to go and put the whole thing to rest this weekend. Can't see them winning anything away 72hrs after an FA Cup final, let alone at the Emirates. Best thing is Arsenal are still going to need points, no favours will be had there.
All we need is two draws, Wigan's goal difference won't better ours, and they probably won't beat Arsenal, meaning we're effectively safe. I wasn't expecting a Wigan loss and was more focused on the fact that as long as Norwich don't beat WBA, we're safe. They'll get comfortably beaten by City, so will be level with us on points with worse goal difference. Would rather Newcastle or Sunderland went down though!
Win on penalties? Fran, stop being so merciful. We want them to lose on penalties, so that they are mentally shattered too.
