    Developments around Celtic Park.
1 Posted by Joseph Ruddy - 05/05/2013 - The Journal

This is just a quickly put together article, which is to show fans what Celtic’s plans are for a new museum, superstore, theatre, café and ticket sales office. Celtic have submitted plans to demolish the category B listed London Road Primary School, and are expected to learn if successful or not this coming Thursday, 9th May.

Designed by GD Lodge Architects this will aim to contribute to a new ‘stadium quarter’ in tandem with development of the adjacent National Indoor Sports Arena and a retail & leisure park, and will be clad in composite metal composite panels in response.

Nevertheless Celtic maintain that time constraints make it unlikely that works will be completed prior to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The school building had been envisaged to provide the required accommodation but Celtic now state that the structure has deteriorated to such an extent that this is no longer viable and will retain only the existing boundary wall.

Historic Scotland have yet to sanction the move however.

Adjacent to the store an avenue will be cut to provide a clear pedestrian access route to the stadium whilst a series of fixed and rising security bollards will be installed to mitigate against a ‘vehicle borne terrorist attack’.

Below are proposed images of what the completed project could look like.

    Looks good...

They should upgrade the front as well, I hate the red brick entrance.

I like it. The artist has even factored in the global warming which will make Glasgow bright with a blue sky.

That is a long tow rope between the ford and that blue car.

Where do we hold vigils now if the car park doesn't look to be there?

PS. You see them fleg things from the lamp posts? They have them here in Derry and they really look smart. A cheap aesthetic..... Reminds me of Barcelona.

I despise Glasgow's utter disregard to caring for its historic buildings.

    Another one bites the dust.

    Glasgow Corporation at its finest.

I actually agree with you on this. I think the club museum should be housed within the school. That was the original plan (I think)

Plus I ****ing hate those deck board and glass buildings. Look like a wooden lego set some idiot savant put together.

I think that was the plan but the structure was deemed to be too unsound by the structural endineering Company Lawwell & Sons.

there are better examples of that type of building in Glasgow. I'm not a big admirer of it anyway. We have done far worse things with much better buildings.

    St Enochs station!

Agreed Tam, but let's stop the rot.

I got these pics from http://urbanglasgow.co.uk/archive/glasgow-schools__o_t__t_747.html and look at the nick of some of these old schools lying neglected and in dire need of investment.

I used to stay in Colston/Springburn and for years, they'd (cooncil) been trying to sell the old Public halls building to developers.

Then over Christmas, they knocked the building down! Some **** should get jailed for it but that's the Corpy's policy. Close it, wait until the rot sets in, knock it down then let the weeds grow.

    Utter ****s.

It doesn't look too bad.... But I'm not going to pretend I have a notion what I am talking about.

Just coincidentally I was looking at something similar recently over the purchase of a property that looked ok but turned out to be ****e....maybe this is the same...... Very convenient though.
