He isn't as creative as Quinn and Koren, but it isn't his job to be a creative player. He's a defensive midfielder who was highly regarded at Old Trafford, he's still young and learning so to write him off compleltely isn't fair at all.

Yeah I assumed that Macca and Rosenior would be the only OOC players getting fresh terms, the rest I assumed would leave on frees. I think Proschwitz will be kept and McLean will be shipped out to somebody like Doncaster or Yeovil.

Speaking of Egyptians, anybody think that Sallah and Elneny at Basel looked pretty good against Chelsea?

whos writing him off completely? my point is he is not good enough to be a starting player in a pl team!! and hes not ffs!! i respect all our current players for getting us up but the fact is 90% of them are not good enough to keep us up. if we going into the season without adding at least 1-2 new cms to partner meyler in cm then we are ****ed!! quinn evans etc all good squad players to have as back up but i shudder at the thought of them starting for us week in week out in pl!!

You don't think Quinn is good enough for the Premier League? <doh>

He's played there before with Sheffield United, he would love having more time on the ball, and he's been one of our most consistent players all Season. Always puts in 100%.

    Isn't it your bedtime?

Well to state we are ****ed if they start is writing them off isn't it? It shows that you haven't got faith in them as players and that they're only good as a last resort.

I'm not quite sure what more Quinn can do to impress you because IMO, he's been consistently one of the best players I've seen in a City shirt this season. He never stops working and and yeah, he had a little drop in form towards the end of the season but if you get Stephen Quinn playing well, it lifts the whole team. Evans isn't quite as influential, but I'd have no qualms about any of the current CM starting for us in the PL.

better question(s).... you think quinn is good enough for the pl? (and a meyler quinn cm pairing i guess?) the same who have only just scraped us through to the pl and you want to keep them as first teamers??? not looking to improve on a cm pairing that almost fluffed getting promoted and got overran often in the championship? **** me do you lot want to finish 20th with the worst points total ever or what?

im not saying we should go sign top quiality players and finish mid table or anything, but like i have said millions of times... unless we vastly improve we wont even be able to put up a ****ing fight!!!

I don't think any of our midfielders are good enough, that is the area of the team that needs the most attention. Not sure why Bruce made such a point of signing Meyler, a struggling Sunderland didn't rate him. Quinn ,Evans squad players maybe but no more all half decent championship players but will get destroyed in the premier league.

    Anyway bedtime for me :)

Salah on loan will be a great signning for both hull and salah
he is only 20 and a year loan at a premier league club will do him wonders also i don't think basel will refuse any loan deal for salah from premier league club since it will be a chance for him to showcase his talent and for them to get the biggest price possible for him at the end of the next season
Salah already talked about a loanoffers from norwich city and swansea city
Elneny signed a 4 years deal with basel last week (he was on loan from arab contractors fc) also norwich city is going for him on loan

If you don't rate Meyler it shows you don't know anything about football and only like to see the goals fly in. Meyler constantly breaks up play and gets up and down more then anyone on the pitch (along with Quinn) he'd be great in a Holding role in a 4-2-3-1 formation!

We have a much better side than we think, particularly in midfield.

All this talk of 'only just scraping 2nd' as if it's a bad thing! Jesus wept who thought we'd scrape second at the start of the season?

For those slating Bramble, having been to plenty of games at the Stadium of Light this season, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see how good he actually is. Would definitely take him on a free transfer if Sunderland decide to let him go. We may already have Chester, McShane and Hobbs but Faye probably won't stick around and Alex Bruce is... Alex Bruce.

Firstly formation, I reckon 4-2-3-1 going into 4-3-3 when required
(Bruce does like his fluid formations)

Gk - Mannone, Stockdale, Jak (possible Kirkland instead of Mannone? Apparently bargin buy?)
    LB - NEW, Dudgeon
    CB - Hobbs, Faye, NEW
CB - Chester, McShane, Bruce, New
    RB - Elmo, Roseinor
    DM - Meyler, Evans, NEW
    DM - Quinn, Cairney, NEW
    LWF - Bradey, NEW
    AM - Boyd, Koren, NEW
    RWF - Aluko, NEW
    FD - NEW, Fryatt, Protzwich

Pretty certain we will sign Stockdale, Elmo, and expect all the players I have included to remain in squad (note word SQUAD not starting XI)

To be fair, he only ever made 15 appearances, he was only 21 and they got relegated that season.

I hope he can play at that level, but I'd say his previous stint doesn't really prove anything.

Nobody's said otherwise, scraping 2nd was brilliant, but trying to compete in the Premier League with the team that scraped second would not be so brilliant.

I'd follow the Southampton model. Stick with the talent that got you there and add one or two quality players where necessary. Even if we didn't get promoted we'd be looking at new strikers and probably a midfielder who can pick a pass as well as converting the loans. Honestly that would do for me. We might need an extra defender too I suppose.

I reckon he'll be alright in and around the squad, perhaps not someone who's going to play every week but still a good squad option.

Having said that, Dean Marney played 31 league games in our survival season, so Quinn could be our Ramires <whistle>

Can we really afford to have 3 players competing for every position? Two is usually a good aim. Really don't think we should be buying 4 defenders, 2 cm's, 3 new attackings mids and a new striker. You are quite literally buying more than a full new team there. Where is the money coming from?

Southampton still made 9 signings - Ramirez & Rodriguez costing £20m by themselves.

I think we're looking at least 8 signatures.
