Has anyone got the player thing on the gillingham website?? http://www.gillinghamfootballclub.com/articles/20110523/latest-on-contract-rebels_2264689_2365470 I don't unfortunately and was wondering what the latest was on our so called contract rebels? Would be great if any one can tell me what's happening anyway. Cheers
Barcham - looking at the division above, Hessy disappointed. Bayo - nothing confirmed yet but it don't look like he's staying, he's leaving his options open at the moment, we are giving him a bit of time, pretty certain we need to know, we would love him to stay although unlikely he will. Palmer - made him an offer, don't think he will be taking up our offer. Mayer - away at the moment. Martin - hopefully a decision by the end of the day. Hessy, frustrated but careful not to get rushed in to deals. All above comments not in full context but hopefully not out of context.
Oh right thanks, i doubted Bayo would stay anyway i'm sure someone else will offer more money maybe in the league above for him but is a shame about palmer wanted to see him start where he left off. Thanks for the info anyway!
I can except players wanting to improve their position but our deal is on the table, I don't want them settling for us as a last option. If they only sign for us because they couldn't get a better offer anywhere else will they be dedicated to the team.
brb, was anything else said about Palmer? The budget must have really taken a hammering if not even Palmer wants to stay.
from what hess has said palmer wants to head back to the midlands to be with his family which is fair enough but a shame none the less. as for bayo it will be a shame to lose him but unless we find ourselves another jacko/cody mould striker then would he work up front along side a oli or another big stirker? obviously martin is a nice addition to the squad and fills the left back slot with jackman as back up. maher, well if the rumor josh wright might be available then we all know who'd we prefer.
Not really, it was only about just over a 3 minute interview, felt a bit sorry for Hessy actually, just my words but I felt the guy was having to Things are tight, the players have got to be realistic and I think not606 poster grumpygit summed it all up for me when he said... I can except players wanting to improve their position but our deal is on the table, I don't want them settling for us as a last option. If they only sign for us because they couldn't get a better offer anywhere else will they be dedicated to the team.
More news on Palmer, along the lines of what poster jokeykid said... http://www.kentnews.co.uk/p_12/Article/a_13897/Palmer_says_Gillingham_offer_not_spectacular?
Judging by what Palmer said about the offer being "not spectacular" I can see Palmer and Bayo and possibly Maher not signing as all 3 of them aren't from local areas and if their wages are considerably lower, there doesn't look to be much incentive for staying. I think the squad as a whole will be a lot smaller and it may be a season where Hess will have to use the youth system i.e people like Rooney, Callum Davies, Connar Essam will feature more than in recent systems. Maybe 4 or 5 players including at least a goalkeeper may be added but in terms of wages, it looks like the majority of these players will be coming up from Non league.
Yeah, I have one big problem with that though, I said all along we need a smaller squad but with more quality. I thought that was also what Hessy wanted, so where is the quality?
http://www.kentsportsnews.com/News-...11/Fish---Flitney-linked-with-Gills-move.aspx Hardly surprising that they're from Dover. I seem to remember Hess was trying to sign Fish last summer.
It appears that Dover are having the same problem holding on to players. This is what the Dover site says about Matt Fish... An attacking full back, Matt is a fans favourite and is considered by many to be the best right back in Dover Athletic's history. He has also deputised successfully in central defence. http://dover-athletic.co.uk/index.php?p=showprofile&id=150&c=ft This is what Hessy has previously said about Ross Flitney according to wiki... In January 2010, Flitney signed for Conference South club Dover Athletic. Dover manager Andy Hessenthaler said; "He's a keeper I've had my eye on. He brings something different to the table in that he is 6ft 3in and kicks the ball a mile!".[13] Flitney made his debut for Dover in the 2ââ¬â0 defeat to Woking on 23 January. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_Flitney Although if there were any truth in these rumours, I'm not quite sure how all this fits in to this alleged statement... "We just want to bring in perhaps four or five real quality players. Leaders that can go in with the ones we've already got and we'll have a decent squad next year." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/g/gillingham/9495447.stm? Does anyone know how many games Flitney actually played for Croydon? He's only played 10 for Dover, looking at the stats. Real quality players - Leaders!
At least Joe Martin has now been confirmed on a 2 year contract. Seemed solid enough last season, but the most surprising thing to me is the club commiting to a 2 year deal!
i think the Dover pair will definetly be wanted by the Gills as no fee, low wages. Just what Scally wanted
