  1. That doesn't mean he knows anything about football. Being a businessman is one thing, NUFC isn't jut any random business he can **** with and do what ever he wants with, disregarding all the fans that pay a fortune for season tickets and merchandise for the club they love.

    He treats it like a chew toy. I'm not denying he knows anything about running a business, but he never shows any respect for what the club means to other people.

    No, but I dont argue with what is clearly a stable financial model, whereas most of your plans consist of sacking someone then giving their wages to someone else, or breaking the wage cap.

    I walked away because the debate had become circular and was going nowhere. When I realised that I had a better chance of having my points understood by a brick wall I gave up to save my sanity and to do something more enjoyable, like having an intelligent discussion with somebody else. Doesn't the fact that the others did the same tell you anything?

    I totally agree with what you're saying about his regard for the club and it's fans but DonkeyToon made a very valid point about your observations on the financial side of things. No one here, yourself included, has a clue how to run a business the size of NUFC so unfortunately we all have to give Ashley credit here. How he treats the fans is another thing, it's deplorable without a doubt but financially you've gotta admit it, he's pulling things together.

  7. I never said breaking the wage, i said i'd raise the wage cap, and i also said i wouldn't just go offering 60k a week to any new signing, i'd offer a lower wage first then rise the wage offer if we really desired the player at the club.

    And when i said sacking players and giving their wages to someone else, i realise i wasn't saying clearly what i meant. I didn't mean sacking them as in paying off their contracts, i meant selling them, and then giving the new playre their wages.

    What would it hurt to sell Xisco and Smith and then off their wages to two new good players? If the plyers were that good they would surely pay the money back through good performances.

    The only player i could see asking for a pay rise and saying "why can't i have what he's having", is Tiote, and to be quite honest, he deserves it because he pays it back.

    I still think we should keep a wage cap, but i think if it's stopping us signing the players we need, we should raise the barrier from 50k to higher.

    I entirely agree with selling useless, overpaid players and using the savings on wages, but dont set a wage cap then keep changing it, and pump the saved wages into our transfer fund which goes to wages and the transfers themselves.

    Selling Xisco and Smith for example would mean we have 100k more to spend on wages and more of the Carroll money available for the cost of incoming transfers.

  9. Well i agree some of his decisions of late have been good, but i think it's just a bit naive of him to think he can achieve results by the cheapest means.

    I certainly don't agree with this signing players young method he's come up with. Barton is at his peak now, anyone with a brain cell would offer our best player a contract and especially if he's going to accept a wage cut to conform to the new wage cap that MIKE ASHLEY HIMSELF put into place.

    It kills my brain to think of his reasoning when he agreed to give Williamson, Pardew and Nile Ranger all 5.5 year contracts, but not offer our most vital player one. Even a 4 year contract which he desires would take him to 32. Look at Ryan Giggs and Scholes, both in their late 30's and still playing well. Barton could be the same.

    And besides, in 4 years time Ashley will most likely be gone and Joey's contract will not be of his concern.

  11. Agreed and sorry for the misunderstanding i created, i didn't just mean sacking players and paying off their contracts, i mean getting rid of them i.e selling them.

    <cheers>

    He may at times talk out of his arse but he has not raked it in. He would have made considerably more money if he had invested his £250m in countless ways rather than pumping it into the club as interest free loans.

    If you can't be at least partially objective about the man's merits then all your comments about him lose their credibility. He is a nob and has made some terrible decisions in the early days but financially the guy has kept this club alive. Shepherd would have bankrupted us by now.
