Results really have gone against us this weekend. Not much we could have done, apart from win. We need to hope Chelsea and Sp*rs drop points and that Chelsea drop points to Villa and Everton now, although I think that third place is just about gone.
A Chelsea win gives a bit more cushion in terms of just securing a CL place. Because then a draw and a win would be enough seeing as we have the edge over Spurs in goal difference.
And anyway, I think Chelsea are odds on to beat Spurs. They are at home, they are in excellent form and Spurs could be without Dembele and Lennon. Chelsea did not even have Hazard today and they still won.
You've got top 4 now I think. Can't see us beating Chelsea - even if we draw we'll still be behind you by a point. I reckon you'll get 4 points from your remaining 2 games (I think Wigan will draw) and I think we'll get the same (draw at Stoke)
Having said all that, Spurs still have Bale and after all things he has done this season, it's not going to shock me if he goes and wins the game on his own. ****ing hell, that game on Wednesday is going to be tense.
Anyways, in terms of a top four finish (should it arise), I would take 4th if we cannot get third. The only thing ending up in 4th means is having to play a CL qualifier...
I'm going to be pessimistic for the first time about the CL place this season and say that if Spurs win against Chelsea we are for sure ending up 5th. Our only hope in that scenario would be their Stoke game at home... and I'm not even sure we'll get all 6 points. Our Man Utd. game was so ****ing winnable it's unbelievable. We just don't ****ing have any "winners" in our team. We almost managed to **** up QPR. Score a goal and then go completely pedestrian passing the ball in half a circle around their goal.
Kinda like what the winners United do. Or what Spurs did vs Southampton. At this point performances mean ****, its all about the points.
I was at Old Trafford today... We could all hear the groan from North London as the ball trickled into the back of the net! Seriously though I expected one point today and was given a bit of hope when I saw the team selection. But to get the 3 points was insane for us. We've beaten United 3 times this season! We win against Spurs then we have done it... I expect you lot to get 4th tbh with us getting 3rd
Only form of encouragement for you is that a Spurs win on Wednesday is highly unlikely. Still, there's no margin for error for you and needless to say you'll be playing under huge pressure against a Wigan side needing to win and a Newcastle side needing to win as well. Chelsea & Spurs play twice before you do as well so you could find yourselves 5th going into the Wigan game
We'll be well rested though, and play a Wigan side three days after their FA cup final. Hopefully they will be tired and despondent (I don't forsee a win for them against MC). Spuds could struggle against Stoke City and Villa are no pushovers at Villa park. Any complacency on your part and it could all go belly up! A lot will depend on the game on Wed, win and you are almost home and dry. A draw is best for us, as neither team gain as significant advantage. A spurs win is the worst result for us because it throws everything back into the mix for the CL places.
