Here are the ways we might survive and the odds in my opinion:

    1) Beating West Brom. If we win this, we will stay up short of a completely freak set of results. The good news is we couldn't ask for more than a midtable team at home with nothing to play for. The bad news is that we have to attack now and WBA, like Villa, are a very good counter-attacking team. This game less likely to be a draw because we have to go for it, so I'd say somewhere between 35 and 40% chance of winning this. (Same odds of losing it).

    2) Wigan failing to win any of their last three games. Very unlikely. Swansea have been on the beach for about six weeks, Villa will probably be on the beach by the last day, and Wigan look as if they are doing their usual late dash for survival. Chance maximum of 5%

    3) Doing the same as Newcastle. If we lose both games, so might Newcastle. Or if we get a draw next time out, so might they. Bad news: Newcastle play QPR, who must be almost the worst team in Prem history at the moment. Also we have to match the beating we get at Man City against the beating they get at home to Arsenal. Chance maybe 5%.

    4) Sunderland don't get another point, or they get one and we draw against West Brom. Very unlikely. They have Stoke and Southampton at home - surely two 0-0 at worst from their point of view. Chance maybe 2%.

    5) We win at Man City on the final day of the season. Yes, and my penis is 12 inches long. Chance 0.00000002%.

So maybe we have a 40% chance of surviving in my opinion.

I am so angry that it has come to this. I guess most of you are, too.

Statistically that can't be right or we would be favourites to go down, not Wigan.I do think that it's a strong possibility still that Wigan will only manage 37.

We SHOULD be favourites to go down. And we will be, as soon as Wigan beat Swansea.

I think our chances is slim now, got to be favourites to get relegated. Even a win against West Brom might not be good enough.

Not with two home games left, more chance to get 4 I'd say

We beat West Brom to get to 41 points. Any team on 40 now to lose their remaining games, that's Stoke, Fulham, or Villa. Southampton and Newcastle no more than two draws. Sunderland one win or three draws. Wigan one win and two draws. Alternatively all eight of us tie on 41 going to goal difference which doesn't favour us. Very unlikely that Sunderland and Wigan will not surpass our 38 with three games left for both clubs. I hope I've got that right but we should've sewn this up weeks ago.

Basically, yes, except Wigan and Villa have to play each other. So if Villa lose to Chelsea they need a point against Wigan, which means Wigan need to win their other two games, against Swansea and Arsenal. In other words, if we beat WBA, I think we should survive.

You'd think with so many pro-CH posters reminding us how CH has sorted the defence that if it came to GD we would be certain to stay up <doh>

We will lose both games and be relegated. Pretty certain of it.

Can't believe how shocking WBA were. Did Clark actually take the fixture seriously, because that wasn't the same team that destroyed my team the previous week. And taking off the two most creative players on the 70 minute mark, seriously, wtf? I don't mind Wigan putting up a good fight, but boy do things just fall for them time & again, its like the EPL just expects them to stay, so things just fall into place. I, for the record think they will stay up, Swansea are broken & Villa will probably have a shocker on the last day, just typical. What a season......crazy.

Yes, I think I posted something similar elsewhere. That would be a fantastic twist and is possible.

we're hot and cold at the moment really. with so little to play for, we're clearly at that stage of deciding when we want to play well, i.e at yours last weekend. we were awful against wigan and it just shows the players feel we are cemented into 8th. re our game with norwich, i can see a similarly poor performance, we might snatch a draw if we're lucky. :(

First time I've seen Clark smile, did he have a bet on Wigan staying up, or was his wife a bit frisky the night before, I guess we'll never know, but to me, he's a bit of a plonker. Poor performance I can take, dragging off your two most influential players on the 70 minute mark shows a lack of respect to the table. Fans have long memories, so I hope your not fighting relegation next season.

Just done the BBC predictor again, if we lose on Sunday we get relegated on goal difference by my judgement.
If we win then its Sunderland who drop.

There are just so many possibilities that it's totally impossible to say.Wins for Stoke at sunderland and/or Swansea at Wigan and it all changes again.Norwich an Newcastle fans seem the gloomiest.Wigan don't have any apart from the peripatetic nutter HP Sauce and he is out to such a long lunch it's not worth placing much reliance on what he thinks. For sure there are still more twists to come.

I know Wigan seem to always pick up results, but I think I'm right in saying they're now without 2 first choice defenders (Boyce and Figueroa) for the rest of the season? Surely that combined with fixture pile-up has got to hinder them more than previous seasons?

Anyone right down from Stoke are still in danger, and no-one seems to have mentioned Fulham (on 40 pts) who have Liverpool at home and Swansea away to come, there are still endless permutations.

The thing is though, I feel like I have been finding reasons for weeks as to why Wigan won't be able to pick up many more points. They always seem to find a way.
