    http://metro.co.uk/2013/05/04/newca...w-with-montpellier-coach-rene-girard-3712899/

Newcastle are said to be considering replacing Alan Pardew with Montpellier manager Rene Girard at the end of the season.

Girard, who led Montpellier to the Ligue 1 title last year, has already confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season and the Magpies are considering approaching him.

According to Le Sport 10, Newcastle have been recommended the 59-year-old’s services and, with Alan Pardew’s future far from certain, he has emerged as a leading contender for the St James’ Park hot seat.

Girard has already received several offers from sides across Europe, but revealed a move to the Premier League is his priority.

‘I know it won’t be easy, but I want to work in England,’ Girard told the BBC.

‘There are lots of good coaches and lots of people in the market for the top coaching roles but hopefully I can find a club.

’It’s always been my dream to work in English football.’

The comments come as Pardew continues his battle to hang on at Newcastle, amid rumours that the large contingent of French players have created a divide in the dressing room.

Newcastle banned a journalist this week for reporting on the supposed divide, but Pardew has since acknowledged that there are communication issues within the dressing room.

Pardew would command a huge pay-off were he to be sacked. He only signed a new eight-year deal in September, having enjoyed a stunning campaign last year.

My views are that if this is the case then fair play to the club. This season regardless of circumstances has been far from acceptable and Rene Girard has a very bright resume and performed minor miracles with Montpelier and is apparently keen on testing his metal with the Premier League and who more suitable than Newcastle right now?

This may not end up like a Arsene Wenger moment but I'm sure it wouldn't be a Jean Tigana situation either. Give Rene a voice amongst the board room and he might just work some wonders. :)

don't bet on Pardew getting a huge pay off. Do you honestly think the fat controller wouldn't have clauses in to his benefit.

Rene Girard, is that one or two Michelin Stars then ?
Not sure about yet more French recruits, yes, l know it makes sense to have a manager that can speak the same language as the vast majority of our most influential players, but it is all getting a bit much for me.
Can't help but think that if l wanted to support a French club, l would choose one from Ligue 1 to be honest.

We might be relegated in a few weeks and if that happens I doubt very much he will come to us.

Are there actually any French players still over there?

Don't tell our scouts if so!

Hello honey, don't really care who is left over there right now, just want this abomination of a season to end. As far as l am concerned we may as well sign our next recruits from outer *****lia for all the use they have been.

Until we know if we are staying up or going down I can't get particularly interested in any rumours. Our relegation would end the chances of any decent managerial appointment or player signing.

When Arsenal brought in Arsene Wenger in 1996 who went on to purchase the likes of Nicholas Anelka, Patrick Viera and Rémi Garde before the further signings of Gilles Grimandi, Emmanuel Petit to spurt of a Gaelic spending spree like no other, who would of thought Arsenal could of achieved what they have done today? Rene is 59 which is a bit older than Arsene when he came to English football but with the likes of Debuchy, Mbiwa, Sissoko already here who knows what Rene could build from the platform Newcastle already have. He might also look to bring in Olivier Giroud from Arsenal who Graeme Carr has watched before and Rene has already worked with. I think Rene might just be an astounding acquisition on a 3 year deal in my opinion.

Bringing in 9 Frenchies in a year: from top flight to relegation zone. Surely more Frenchies is exactly what Newcastle need.

    Sacre blue, mon dieu

I think his style is too soft for the premier league, Montpellier defend with the players very close to each other but they don't deal very well to pressure and fast paced matches.
