Just a change from football for a minute. How can Ronnie o sullivan play in this years tournament when you need ranking points, and he had not played for about a year?.

Monty, I presume it's because he's the reigning world champion and the biggest draw in snooker. Maybe it's also a case of Barry Hearn making it easier for some people? A little bit of bending the rules, say?

As for Ronnie himself, a great player of course but I for one am sick of hearing his whinging about the game and how he's going to retire. He's been doing this for nearly a decade....either shut up or put up Ronnie (hopefully, he will continue to play and entertain us).

Ranking points are built up over a number of years, so as reigning world champion he would still have had enough to qualify..

This <ok>.. A bit of a publicity seeker, you can see him in a few years time like Harry Redknapp. The crazy thing is, I quite like Redknapp and think the EPL and football as a whole will miss the twitchy git when he's gone..

He is a troubled individual who obviously doesn't like or feel comfortable when doing the TV interviews..Great talent though, and would be a massive miss to snooker if he did pack in for good..

To be fair he's got some quite serious mental health problems and in light of his condition his behaviour is fairly typical.

We all have mental health problems but it usually hides behind the flummery of day to day living. If he had my life for the last 3 years then he would know what every piece of emotional nerve and every piece of physiological stress can do to you to see a close one suffer. Like I said, a typical cockney drama merchant with superb snooker skills..

I really thought he was going to walk off last night when Michaela accused him of making an obscene gesture towards her..

We don't all have mental health problems. it's one in four that experience mental health problems at some point in their lives. Different mental health illnesses display different behaviours and it's a massive spectrum. To compare lives (forgive me for saying) is quite ignorant as it's not the life, but the how individuals copes with the life. this varies from person to person mental health illness or not. Ronnie has Clinical Depression and although it's not a chemical imbalance can consume decades of a persons life on and off. His behaviours are typical of Clinical depression and not of a "typical cockney drama merchant".

btw I worked over 5 years as a mental health support worker and am diagnosed bipolar, I've been in and out institutions both professionally and personally. Not having a dig but it really gets my goat when people are so flippant and dismissive over something that is seriously underfunded and completely misunderstood.

You're right, it is completely misunderstood. I also suffer from something very similar and I'm sick to death of being called 'miserable', 'huffy' and likewise. With this issue a lot of folk are completely misguided on the matter and have stone age mentality.

Mental health is the last taboo. the world has desensitized to everything except this subject. I get called crazy, nutter and mad bastard cause I spend most of my life in a state off mania(I do have a mass of curly hair and wear questionable clothing). Keep off the drink and in moderation when I do. plus a constant supply of skunk gets me by without meds. <ok>
