Like most on here I predicted a win today, however I take no real comfort from this display. This was a dismal dismal display. How many more times is Superman going to save their asses out there.
Dragging ourselves to the finish line. Players looked truly crippled out there, but a win's a win! The chelsea game will be a game of benches. They have one, we don't. Stop starting dempsey; might be useful as a super sub. Start parker for the chelsea game. He's slow but we need the protection. With Man u and everton, i'd happily take 0-0 there. Hudd should be brought on at about 60 mins. I really hope dembele is fit again - start holtby too. Deserves a chance, really played well this afternoon despite being swarmed. (Arsenal in front after 21 seconds. Great)
This was the team that beat United back in September... strangely I would never pick this side in a million years against Chelsea this Wednesday and think we have a chance of a result. 24 Friedel 05 Vertonghen 13 Gallas 28 Walker 33 Caulker 02 Dempsey (Sigurdsson - 69' ) 07 Lennon 11 Bale 30 Sandro 18 Defoe (Dawson - 90' ) 19 Dembele (Huddlestone - 83' ) I think this proves how much we miss Sandro!
It would be nothing short of what we deserve after last seasons finish only to be denied by a team that finished 6th. If we finish in the top four, we were there on merit.
Sorry, but credit where it's due they have deserved it most if not each season. Over the season as a whole this time out they have been better than us IMO. Last year they were lucky we ****ed up so spectacularly, just not as lucky as Chelsea
Well Chelsea and Man City might not "deserve" their money but they have not played that badly over the last few years to have got those CL places. Forget comparisons with the other CL teams (who, over the last ten/fifteen years have pretty much always had clearly better teams than we have right now), what about just Spurs? For a team that might achieve something we've only done once before in decades we surely do not look like one of the best teams we've seen in that time. OK - we should really count last year as an equal success to when we did qualify for the CL by finishing fourth. And last year we had the ability to thoroughly BOSS games occasionally. But still we've, at no point this season, looked all that convincing for more than flashes. And I'm not sure if any of those flashes have lasted a whole game. Very rare for it to have even lasted most of a game. I don't mean to be too negative and I'm delighted we are where we are and think that AVB has done really well in a difficult situation. But the attacking and creative problems in our team are obvious and as bad as they've been for a while. I honestly think we'd be struggling for a Europa spot without Bale. Still. Another win today and I'd LOVE it if we can dick over either Chelsea or Arsenal. Almost don't mind who. (Okay - Arsenal edge it for logistical reasons. If Chelsea don't qualify for the CL they can throw more millions at it. If Arsenal don't it'll get gradually harder and harder for them to qualify again).
Arsenal, for the last half-dozen seasons, have been better than Spurs are now. No question. Not necessarily better then we were last year or the year before that or the year before that, mind.
Maybe this is the season that Levy decides to back AVB. He has done pretty well and so has the club as a whole, for a solid period now with significantly less resources than those around us. With a 20 goal striker this season we would have been in third comfortably. This "nearly" business has to stop. If he backs the team and AVB they will deliver. Our expectations mean nothing; Cold hard cash does and we need to spend some to give us the momentum to avoid these kind of performances season in, season out.
Another clumsy , huff and puff, the story of our season. So many games have been joyless over the season . Our Texan Tiger must be AVB's long lost half brother as he make's the starting line up again and again. Constant crap football getting results , a new Spurs. I hoping for a miracle against the chav's, we have a chance because of one man and nobody else can compare. Singularly he has raised a mid table side to a fighting chance of top 4. My Achilles , you take all the glory.
Surely part of the rationale behind getting rid of Harry and getting in AVB was that Levy thought AVB was a better bet to back long-term. If he doesn't back him in the transfer market what was the point? AVB seems to have had very little input into the players he has though, even the ones bought whilst he was in the job. And it's questionable if this will change since Levy seems to be the unofficial Director of Football, setting up and sealing transfers even when there's no manager. Sorry - head coach.
