Are we convinced DA stays the mile and a half of the Derby? Remember listening to Mr Bolger earlier in the year and he sounded less than convinced... some might say that's probably the best clue to lump on him you could be get
Good point Beefy. As John Oxx said of STS,no one knows if he'll stay until he tries. I'd say he's certain to go for The Derby. His part owner, all round good egg and everyman Sheikh Mo,once ran Ajdal in the Derby.Adjal won the July Cup over 6F NTO before taking the Nunthorpe over 5F and ending up Champion Sprinter. In other words the Sheikh never lets a thing like pedigree or stamina influenece who he runs at Epsom!
I thought Dawn Approach might get turned over today, much as I wanted him to win. Joe, (in Devil's advocate style) Dawn Approach beat Glory Awaits 5l in half a second slower than standard time on fast ground in what looked a truly run race. One could say that Glory Awaits was beaten 10½l by Intello, 5l by Trading Leather, 20l by Olympic Glory, 26l Tha'Ir and 24l by Funk Soul Brother. To his credit though, he did beat Letstalkaboutmoney by a nose. Given that Toronado either had an off day or simply doesn't stay 8f, the Guineas form does not amount to much. Unless a dark horse pops out of the woodwork, the Derby won't take much winning and it's there for the taking for Dawn Approach.
Why do we think Glory Awaits was able to finish 2nd lads? Was it an enterprising ride by Spencer? Has he come on a ton from the Feilden Stakes? Or has Dawn Approach only run to a mark of around 110 today? I think there was a bit of depth in the race today, I think the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th are decent animals (without being Group 1 milers for various reasons today) so the blot on the race is Glory Awaits. Has he been underrated on his run in the Feilden? I think that Intello looks a smart animal so maybe that Feilden race has been under rated somewhat? I don't know what else to make of it.
went in balls deep with a single and double with dawn approach. He was perhaps fortunate to beat Greatwood (who i put up that day) in the sales race but trainer said he needed the run that day. Greatwood is thought to be a likely Derby candidate by his experienced handler so I don't see any reason why this guy can't be either. He absolutely pissed that making all. Ta Dex.
Glory Awaits ran up the middle of the track if you watch the race back, whilst the rest of the field ran more towards the left. Obviously this was a deliberate move from Spencer, and it paid off as clearly the ground was slightly faster down the midlle. They also had blinkers on for the first time, which might have made a big difference to him. Dawn Approach is clearly an absolute beast, and is the best winner of the 2000 Guineas with the exception of Frankel that i have seen for a very long time
If anyone is interested, we have a dress rehearsal for the Champions League final in the Bundesliga right now: http://www.stadium-live.com/Channel1.html
The Guineas form rarely does, the time is good, it was a true race, Glory Awaits had some nice form in the book, hes obviously ran the race of his life today and he may or may not back it up, but today he has run to a high level, alot higher than 95 I can assure you. Some decent animals have been absolutely slaughtered and the winner is the best miler in Europe, I think he would take a bit of beating at 1m2 aswell.
Fancies for the 1000 tomorrow lads? I'm liking the Delzangles horse What A Name - her last 2 races have been on atrocious ground but she won the Prix Impudence showing a really nice attitude and before that was 2nd against the boys in the Grand Criterium. Can't be having the Cecil horse - way too short, based on connections.
Nice one Ste and happy birthday! I like the Cecil filly Oddy and backed her at 6's e/w with PP shorthly after the Nell Gwynn..bound to be in the three imo. Not keen on Moth...too short on what she has achieved and don't see the Hannon filly reversing the form with the fav.His horses are pretty spot on first time up and probobly improve less than most. The vibes from JTJ are most positive so she cannot easily be dismissed and the French Filly is arrives from shrewd connections and is also an unknown. The Weld filly also has to be considered on better ground and may cover my bet with a little on her..what a weekend for New Approach that would complete!
