Ten clubs are poised to resign from the Scottish Football League after becoming disillusioned with how league reconstruction talks have progressed. After a meeting at Hamilton's ground on Thursday evening, several First Division sides are said to be ready to carry out the move in a bid to force a restructure of Scottish football. All First Division clubs bar Partick Thistle and Airdrie United, plus Dundee and Queen of the South have signed a letter signalling their intent to leave the SFL. Dundee's signature is on condition that they are relegated from the Scottish premier league. It's understood a second SPL tier of 12 clubs rather than 10 is the preferred option. STV has learned that Rangers place in any proposed restructure was mentioned but was considered irrelevant to the discussion facing the clubs on Thursday evening. However this was not to suggest that the Ibrox club was not to be part of any considerations. The Scottish Premier League declined to comment. A package of proposals including a 12-12-18 league format and financial redistribution were rejected two weeks ago after St Mirren and Ross County voted against, the top flight will reconsider elements of the plan. First Division clubs met independently last week to discuss their own concerns that the failed SPL vote had derailed the reform process. The second-tier clubs are committed to bringing change in time for next season to allow the financial gap between the SPL and SFL clubs to be closed sooner rather than later. In April a delegation of First Division sides met at Hamilton Academical's ground to discuss possible change. SFL chief executive David Longmuir was present for part of the meeting but left before talks concluded. SFL rule 12 on notice to resign membership states: "No Member shall resign, retire or otherwise cease to be a member of the League unless it shall have given not less than two full seasons prior written notice so to do, unless with the approval of not less than two-thirds (66%) of the votes cast at a general meeting of the League."
Surely the question as to the formation of an spl2 and the rangers participation in it or not has to be decide by peter lawwell ?

Maybe they read this post and got in first with the **** yous?
Heard an interview with David Longmuir on BBC Radio Scotland this afternoon where he was asked where Rangers are in the "SFL rebels". He said Rangers will be playing Division 2 next season and are not involved. He was also indirectly saying he wasn't happy about what those clubs had done but was keen to move onward and at least have the playoffs mooted in the original (shot down) proposal implemented for next season. He also repeatedly and pointedly remarked on the SPL's voting structure. He has to I guess cos the ball is now back in their park.
Looks as if the SFL1 Clubs are pissed off with Longmuir more than with St Mirren and Ross County, I suspect he's trying to cover his own back in case he gets the Julius Caesar treatment from the Clubs who seem to feel he's let them down.
I think so, too. His kingdom looks like it's disappearing around him. The restructuring was his opportunity to oust the ****ers at the SPL and he's fallen short. Clubs under his remit have now rebelled against him. I really though his involvement in the restructuring would bear fruit and am genuinely surprised at the current state of play.
