Surprised about Basey but I guess only playing 4 times wasn't enough. Thank goodness Oli has gone. By my reckoning that leaves 26 (including Ainsworths departure) which is what they were aiming for. However I would like to see some others leave and fresh blood coming in and fingers crossed for that all important 20 goals a season striker.

the 2 that surprise me in there is basey being released and angol being kept - angol hasnet really offered anything and has barely been on thee bench, even when he wasent out on loan... olly taylors also slightly surprising as hes exactly the sort of striker we need, so maybe another year would be the way forward

i dont think that will be it for contract news, this wont be the 26 as some may still be released or decide not to sign

Not really surprised to see Basey gone. Looked ok when on loan but as soon as he signed his performances were poor and he has been injured for a full year. We also already have Dunne and Wood who can play there, both of whom I would rate a left back ahead of him.

I am surprised at Angol being offered a year as Gaz has used him very little and sent him out on loan. That said he is only 18 and no doubt less expensive as a second string than useless immobile oafs like Oli!

    For me from the rest:

Danny Foster - release - never been a fan of his, very suspect when defending
Marvin McCoy - possible offer another year unless someone already lined up - 2 years ago showed so much promised but seems to have stood still since then.
Dave Winfield - offer contract - I never used to rate him but since Gaz took over he has been a new player and will get better with age
Leon Johnson - release - Been a good player for us but injured for long spells each year and if we have Stewart, Hause, Docherty, Winfield and Dunne who can play CB I think that is enough.
Jesse Kewley-Graham - release - never seen anything from him that suggests he could make it, the games he has played have passed him by.
Emmanuel Ighorae - not sure as not really seen
Joel Grant - offer contract - that is if we can get 1st half of the season Grant back! Ever since he was sent off against Morecambe not quite had the same spark. Was one of the few playing well at the start of the season.

Dean Morgan - difficult - I would much rather Morgan than Kuffour but we are stuck with Kuffour (thanks Waddock)! We need another stronger striker who can hold the ball up to compliment McClure. If keeping Morgan means no other striker then I would say release.

Matt Bloomfield - The most difficult decision of all. Fantastic servant but year on year he seems to get injuries that keep him out for a minimum of 10 games a season and this season practically every game. With budgets so tight I would be include to release but grant him a testimonial still but I think he will probably be offered a year.

Basey looked a good player when we first got him put he has fitness issues and after 9 months out with injury he may need a while at weight watchers before anyone gives him a contract and Charles Dunne has been outstanding at left back and Woody has been excellent cover so no need for a 3rd left back I'm looking forward to see who we get up front

I think the players who have stayed/ released so far are sensible; both Kresczmar and Angol are still young so could improve a lot. Also, Basey is very injury prone as we found out last season so we shouldn't take chances on him.

As with the rest, I'd give Bloomfield a new 1 year contract and hope he stays fit as he could be a good addition to the team. As for Morgan, I really don't mind if he leaves; he's technically good but lazy beyond belief and I don't have any confidence in him and McClure as a partnership. A big striker would go better with McClure I reckon, though some how we never seem to get those. I also think we need another winger if Grant, Ainsworth and Andrade won't be here next year; I'm not sure who but someone will probably come up.

Lastly with the defence I think we should keep the rest of the defenders we have, I also don't like Foster too much but I don't reckon we could get anyone better so we might as well keep him.

I agree with Finchy about about Morgan, plus it looks like he is haggling for more money - “I’m keen to stay. The club have offered me a new contract and there’s been a bit of back and forth, but I’ve not asked for the world, I just want to live.

I would also like to keep Bloomfield, I can't see us getting someone with as much passion as him, fingers crossed he can stay fit (I don't expect him to be a first teamer)

i would keep bloomfield as a squad player, he gives 110% and can cover anywhere in midfield... as for morgan id keep him unless we have someone less lazy lined up because (lets not deny it) on his day he is a stunning player...

as for johnson i would say release him but he can do a job at this level and there is a constant niggle in my mind that hause and stewart could be off, suddenly leaving us with only 2 centre backs!

i also hope waddock gets a new job so maybe we can lump him with kufffour again <laugh>

I agree on the passion side with Bloomers but if he is only going to be fit for half a season then he is worth a year's contract? He has been a great servant to the club but equally the club have been good to him, renewing contract after contract despite a lot of injuries. 264 starts over 10 seasons is indicative of those injury problems as including cup games that is roughly half a season missed. I also don't see that he offers a lot different to the likes of Scowen and Lewis.

in fairness bloomfield tends to get horribly unlucky with big injurys - the season we were relegated the first time he was out for almost all of it injured, this season one freak injury has put him out for the whole season. if im honest id have given him a 2 year contract last year

Bloomers has injuries nearly every season so it can't just be bad luck! He is clearly injury prone. You look back on his career with us and it is not that often he manages or is available for 40 plus games. I love the guy's energy and attitude but I think a contract offer would be out of sentiment rather than for footballing reasons.

We are a club with serious financial constraints so to me offering a contract to a guy in his late 20's who chances are will miss at least 10-15 games because of injury is too much of a risk. If he was a genuine match winner then maybe it would be worth the risk but he doesn't score many goals and his final ball can be quite suspect.

A pay and play contract maybe, prove his fitness, would be more understandable. Like I said I think he should still be offered a testimonial to say thank you for his services.
