ALLY McCOIST has confirmed an interest in Queen of the Southâs prolific striker Nicky Clark. please log in to view this image The Rangers boss has made initial contact with the playerâs agent and his father, former Rangers player and current Queen of the South Assistant Manager, Sandy Clark. The 21-year-old has scored 40 goals in 45 appearances for the Division Two champions this season including 31 league goals in 35 games and a Ramsdens Cup goal at Ibrox. That record has attracted much interest and McCoist confirmed heâd like to bring the young forward to Ibrox for next season. He said: âIâve spoken to Nickyâs agent and Iâve spoken to Nickyâs father who I know reasonably well to let them know that we have an interest in talking to him and meeting with him. âWeâd like to see if thereâs a possibility of him coming to the club. Weâre no further down the line than that but I spoke to Sandy and Iâm very keen to meet up as are Sandy and Nicky. âSo weâll hopefully get a meeting together in the next couple of days. âAt that level heâs proved heâs one of the most talented, his goal scoring record is fantastic and we certainly need strengthened in forward areas. âLooking at our side in the last half a dozen games weâre particularly weak in forward areas and that would be somewhere we would look to strengthen.â McCoist is also looking to add to his defence and has had Argentinian defender Cristian Trombetta on trial over the course of this week. He added: âWeâve just had a look at him. Heâs been in for two or three days training and heâs having a look at the place and weâre having a look at him âThereâs nothing concrete yet but it obviously goes without saying that weâre desperately trying to bring players in to the club for next season and heâs one thatâs been in doing a bit of training.â However the Rangers boss has admitted it is unlikely he will be in a position to confirm any deals for players this week. McCoist said: âItâs not likely today, but Iâve still very hopeful that in the near future rather than the distant future that we can get some good news out to our supporters in terms of new faces.â
You'll be Head and Shoulders above the rest ... A cut above. He'll be a snip. Wave after wave of attacking football. etc etc etc
I would agree this is exactly the sort of player we want to be bringing in. He's young, Scottish, scores goals for fun at this level and he will improve as we move up the leagues.
GOAL machine Nicky Clark today revealed he is set to sign a three-year deal with boyhood heroes Rangers next week. ... The 21-year-old, voted PFA Division Two player of the year after scoring 41 goals in all competitions for Queen of the South, has reached a verbal agreement with Ally McCoist on his dream move to Ibrox. And Clark, son of former Gers star Sandy, believes he can better this term's record strike tally. He said: "I have met Ally already and we talked over his plans and it's exciting to be in them. I am hoping to meet with him again at Ibrox next week and hopefully get the deal signed and realise my dream of becoming a Rangers player for the next few seasons. "It is something I have always dreamed of and to have met Ally in the first instance was just really flattering, but it was hard to take in that he wanted me to come to the club I have supported all my life. "I have had a great season at Queen of the South and, at 21, I never stopped hoping that maybe I had done enough to get on Ally's radar. "To have actually spoken to him and heard his plans was massive, but I it will only really sink in when I sign on the dotted line. "I may have scored over 40 goals for Queens this season, but I believe I could score even more for Rangers with the quality of the players they have in the side. "My ambition is to play in the SPL and to do it with Rangers one day would be as good as it gets." Clark will be following in the footsteps of dad Sandy, who scored 21 goals in 62 appearances for Gers between 1983/84 and the young striker admits that makes his move to Ibrox even more emotional. He said: "I wasn't around when my dad played for Rangers and seeing him play for them in his prime is something I would have loved. "But if everything goes through, and hopefully I do get the chance to pull on the jersey, I would like to think it will be a special moment for him." A move to Ibrox will see the prolific striker once more tread the boards in the Scottish Second Division, but Clark doesn't care about the prospect of marking time as long as it is in the red, white and blue. He said: "It is a bit of a funny one, in that I have won the Second Division championship as a Queen of the South player and scored an awful lot of goals in the process, and yet I will be staying in the league. "But none of that matters when you are talking about becoming a Rangers player."
