Well both cities have a socialist, working class tradition and so Manchester is hardly a bastion of "the establishment". So I don't see why the decision to hold it in Manchester should be seen as a play by "the establishment" to influence any decision/judgement.

Personally I think the good people of Manchester (and there are plenty of them) will be quite capable of putting any club rivallry to one side.In truth I don't even think where it is held has much bearing other than that it should be somewhere that as many of the families agree on as possible.

Look soft arse, absolutely NOBODY is expecting it to be held in Liverpool, but even the smaller of the two groups of family support memebers has stated that they want it in the NW, but not in Liverpool OR Manchester. The majority of the supporters group didn't want it in the NW at all - i.e, they didn't want it in Manchester. I'm only saying what the vast amjority of those attached to the campaign groups have said, but the judge has spoken and, more importantly, so has Margaret Aspinall. She appears sanguine about it.

Still say, Chester or Preston, as has been mentioned, and I have no problems. Manchester -no, no, NO!

I take on board that not every Manc is a ****. I think I've mentioned on here before that my late father's aircrew pal from Bomber Command was a Manc, and a united supporter, and was as decent a human being I 've known in this life. But, while up until last September I felt at times that even here in Yorkshire it was pushing water uphill to challenge what were just lazy, prejudicial ignorance about Hillsborough, it's only been in Manchester that since then I've heard the continuous grumble of "What about Heysel? then?" since the truth came out. And yes, my work takes me there often.

So if Margaret Aspinall is okay with it I suppose the rest of us will have to put up too. But I'd have much rather it was here in Yorkshire, down in London, up in Newcastle.... And bear in mind, the vast majority of families don't want it in Manchester either. And Tobes, I'm sorry i don't have a zillionth of the dignity, dilligence and patience of the campaigners, but 23 years of chicanery should have taughteveryone never to trust the Establishment and its abilty to play off one set of working people against another to get what they want - and nor the Mancs' willingness to be part of that if even the performance of their fans after the game at Anfield is any yardstick.

Fair play to you then. Although it does raise the question of why, if you are willing to take your civic duties seriously, you somehow feel people from Manchester (many of whom will probably be Liverpool supporters) would be unable to.

You cite the example of people from Manchester who bring up Heysel when in discussion with someone who, in my experience, has a very singular view of Liverpool, Utd and football in general. I think that the vast majority of those people would certainly be able to put all prejudice aside when actually sitting on a jury, particularly when being presented with evidence rather than just having a chat.

Either way, it seems like you've got your wish, which is probably for the best given the likely media / public reaction to any inquest in Manchester:

Sorry DD but you somehow think this is football related, to most it is not, it is a case of 96 deaths of inocent people. Regardless of where this is held you will probably have a maximum of 2 people on the "jury" who support United and possibly as many as 8 who dont give two ****s about football at all. Not everybody cares about football or it`s rivalries.

FFS, you all calling him names. He thinks this might be bad, hopes it isn't, and you call him a ****er among other names. <doh> If anything, I'd guess you lot are trying to reinforce his decision. I don't think it's a bad move, but I can understand Donga's view.

It could be alot worse. It could be here in Sheffield.

Some of the people who live here still believe the lies that the s*n published. Its really unbelievable that they still think what they do, despite all the recent evidence. Frankly alot of the time its disgusting and there have been a few times I've had to hold myself back from punching them in the face when they dismiss the recent findings and put the blame on the Liverpool fans.
