Judging by thier results this year, Fulham have an excellent youth team and they very poor at bringing them through

Matt Targetts dad reckons he is off to Fullham! My mate is friends with him.

If that's true, he really should be more careful who to tell that he's been tapped up. Surely.

If we got Beñat I would do unspeakable things. Excellent, excellent player, just the kind we need... would be a long-shot as he's likely to go for at least £18mil

Well he knows that Shaw will be the Saints left back for many years to come.

Probably wouldn't be turning out for our U21s if he was off.

I could see why Targett would be concerned, his immediate access to the 1st team is well and truly blocked for the foreseeable, on the plus side if we let him go it would show we are very confident that Shaw is staying for some time.

Shaw does seem abit unlucky with injuries though, so if he is no2 he could play about 10 games next year and cup games and U21 thats enough for any 17 year old.

Shaw will probably leave in a couple of years so we could do with targett staying.

congrats to the U21 who run out 5-2 winners against spam, it seems however thier season has come to an end with Liverpool just needing 1 point from 2 games to progress to the knockout stage. Its good to get 5 different goal scorers as well

By my math, under the compensation scheme, we would only get £209,000 in compensation if he does go before signing a pro deal. Really hope that it isn't true, as that's a paltry sum for a talented player who has been in the Academy since age 8...and yet, it's the maximum compensation possible.

True, but two players with trickery and pace would be much harder to defend against than one!

I think if we put down 12-15 million upfront, they'd do a Suarez and bite our hand off.

We would get more if/when he made first team appearances though. But I'm not sure if that would even apply because he would be signing a pro contract, so not just transferring academy.

(not that I'm saying he is leaving)

Yeah, it's still not much, though; £1.3m if a player reaches 100 first-team appearances, paid out in 10-game intervals. Really curious how that works...are those only appearances with the team that poached them, or overall? If it's the former, you could run a pretty nice little racket signing kids away, and then shipping them to a third team.

Rumour has it that Targett had already been targetted by other Prem teams, may go first?

..and I missed the earlier reference to Fulham, don't think that would be a good move!
