I just noticed that the Conference play off final will be this Sunday at 3pm and the winner will obviously be joining League 2. Game live on sky. I didnt realise that their play off games have already happen. Newport beat Craig Disleys Grimsby 1-0 in both legs going through 2-0 on agg. While Wrexham beat Kidderminster 3-1 away and 2-1 at home going through 5-2 on agg. So its been a great season for the Welsh.... * Swansea winning the League cup and consolidated their Premier League status. * Cardiff ending up as Champions of the Championship gaining promotion to the Prem. * Shrewsbury surviving relegation from League 1 * And now a Welsh club - Either Wrexham or Newport - will be promoted from the Conference this Sunday. Who do you think will be joining us in League 2 then?
Newport I hope, even though I hated them years ago they are the team of my birthplace so I must have a soft spot for them after all
Yep Newport - half their team is ex-Gas! David Pipe, Ben Swallow, Andy Sandell, Lord Byron. Would be good to see them back at the Mem and perhaps they can take Bevan, Gill and Virgo off our hands!
yep, i know that. the wink is showing im joking. we have a shrewsbury fan post on our board at times and that was a wind up to him. we had a banter thread going with the shrewsbury fans couple of seasons ago and when we joked about them being welsh, it was a good laugh
Cinder terracing? If your talking about their old ground Somerton Park that's long gone houses there now I think, but they moved to Spytty Ground which is a new sports stadium but but recently moved to Rodney Parade home of the Gwent Dragons.
I last went to Rodney Parade when I was a nipper so can't remember it sorry, probably changed massively in the last 30+ years. Spytty park looked like an athletic stadium that I could see them developing that into a football stadium if needed I suppose. But all in all the Port as we call it over here is one great big ****hole might be my birthplace but I was born in the nice part of it. You now know it as the Celtic Manor so I'm posh Welsh
newport now makes it 2-0 in the 94th min. congrats to newport on their promotion. good derby me thinks
Must have been all their Gas imports that did it! I'm looking forward to a trip over to Rodney Parade next term....
Nice to see another local English club join our division. Did you guys realise that ROD was born in Newport, so he's only a pretend Welsh git?
Pretend, Newport has always been Welsh it's the monmouthshire that has always been in dispute, thats why Chepstow has always flitted between the two. Monmouthshire was once a no country shire for the rich farming community that did not want to be English or Welsh. I was born in the Celtic Manor which was once a maternity hospital call the Lydia Bynam. It's the small part of the hotel down the bottom. My mum was staying there a few years back and showed me the room I was born in. She even asked if I could remember it. She's a doctor of geology holds countless letters after her name, written the book on lean management won awards with it but sometimes ask the most stupid questions of course I couldn't remember it Some of my friends born in the same hotel, class themselves as English some Welsh as the hospital was changing its address all the time. I was Welsh because all but my grandfather on my mothers side were Welsh at the time with my nan coming from the Rhonda valley. The family then moved to Stockwood were my brother and cousins were all born so they are English. Another fact is the hospital was owned by the worlds first millionaire who named it after his daughter who was a midwife? But the Port has always been Gwent so always Welsh (not the best example for the Welsh) Hopefully you enjoyed your bit a schooling today
Lesson accepted ROD. I didn't actually check the county boundaries, just chucked it in for a bit of fun. My brother-in-law had a girl friend who lived near Chepstow and they were adamant that they were English. However I think that's all forgotten now isn't it? How come your mother with a PHD takes you to live in Stockwood. Bristol Uni perhaps?
Looks luvverly across the channel. Two gert windmills flashing in the sun. Fortunately we can't smell it from here!
