Big match for me too, by the by. It's my last as chairman. No doubt the travelling Leeds lads will be shedding a tear or two for me at full time. <wah> :bandit:

No matter what players you use they still have to go out and win games. The fact that a lot of other sides had worse players is hardly your fault.

If you get promoted you will buy even better players.

The only thing that concerned me this season was how my team Cardiff played. How any team could want to see worse players in the championship I do not know. The standard here is high with good reason, we can attract better players.

Anyone would think you had 12 players on the pitch in every game, you seemed to play a fair game when we drew 1-1 with you.

It was Man. Utd. that broke the record for signing a full back who were the first to moan when a few other clubs had the money to compete with them. Fans never complain when their team gets an advantage.

Anyway you and Hull have my best wishes, this last game scenario must be a nightmare for you both.

I aint taking it personally, i am just grumpy first thing in the morning :). Based on the previous comments coming out of the club, we are going to sign the best of the loan players, so i would expect maybe a couple of new arrivals in the summer to strengthen, but they would more likely be permanent as opposed to loans anyway, so i would think we would be even stronger next season. That comment will almost certainly bite me in some way. Even if we only win 1-0.

    Cheers Mate. Repped

We have so out-performed our expectations for this year that it has a feeling of unreality. At best we hoped to be trying for a play off place. Of course now that we can see a glimmer of the Prem we want it and will be disappointed if a) we do not get auto promotion and then b) if we fail in the play offs. Once the disappointment has worn off though we will all feel this was an amazing season.

What a difference a year makes

Thanks jck. Think its more of a nightmare for Hull who should have been over the finish line by now. For us I think it's more feelings of hope and nerves, I will be disappointed but still happy to be in the play off mix.

Close, I wont bore you with the complete in and outs, but we took a ten point hit that season before taking another further 15 points the next season which was kinda made up as the Football League went along <ok>

If I remember Leeds sold on the club to another company - and so like Rangers technically forfeited their right to remain in the league. They went outside the insolvency rules selling to Ken Bates (?) and so not paying money to creditors? The league then "overlooked" this which would have seen Leeds fall out of the league in favour of a 15 point penalty.

Probably got that totally wrong bucks but it did seem like a cobbled together penalty to suit all parties to a greater or lesser extent

This is a great thread, with constructive and civil debate. It ia nice to chat with people who can accept a difference of opinion.

If the Pozzos hadn't bought us I could well have seen us getting massive points deductions because of a corrupt owner. The only saving grace would have been that he is too stupid to get away with his tricks for long so if we had managed to stay in existence the worst we would have got a points deduction in League One.

As for the match, I find it difficult to predict. We have done well in pressure games against the top six and badly against the bottom six. Who knows how we will do against a team with nothing to play for. I would be very surprised if the Leeds players don't want t avenge our last meeting. (if they don't I wouldn't want them playing for my team). Luckily (?) we don't have the pressure that Hull are under. This is their third and final chance to win direct promotion, and that seems to be getting to their fans, at least. There seems to be more hope coming out of Barnsley and Peterborough at the moment.

From an objective point of view, I wonder how much information about the other match will filter down to the Watford and Hull players, given that half the cowd at both games will have phones and radios. ( Do people still take radios to games?)

It will be an interesting weekend. No combination of results or scores would surprise me. A visit from a flying saucer resulting in a goal might, just.

As I remember it the "rule" was put in place afterwards and we were punished retrospectively. As Bucks said, the FL/FA didn't know what to do with us and so made it up as they went along, at the time there were no rules about or against what we did.

It would be like the rules on the acceptable number of loan players allowed being changed right now and Watford being docked points for it.

I have nailed down a decent Irish bar in Barcelona where I'll be watching the game. Bit cautious as to wether they can air it or not though, I did check with them and they said yes but we are on the 'red button' screen and I'm not sure how public houses show these games?!
