19 years ago today people stood on the Kop for the very last time. please log in to view this image So with talk of a stadium redevelopment etc. would you like to see a standing Kop built (hypothetically as we know the FA wont allow terraces) if the ok was given as it is in many European leagues.
I think the FA will sanction it eventually but Liverpool won't ever do it without the blessing of the Hillsborough families
I reckon the families would give their blessing after all its not the fact of standing that killed the 96 that day. It was the fact of being herded into cages for all the world. Nowadays theres no perimeter fences so thats 1 safety aspect taken care of.
I've always said it wasn't standing that was the issue. Standing can be done safely...unfortunately you can't guarantee that because its safe when it's built that it will be safe in ten or twenty years. If the money drains out of football then at some point standards begin to slip and it happens without people even caring. Personally I'd love to stand again. I was there 19 years ago (was it really that long ), knocked a coppers hat off and spent the night sitting on St Georges Hall steps gettin wasted. I knew how much I'd miss it and I knew how flat the atmosphere would become. I fell in love with the Westfalenstadion the first time I saw it...a modern day Kop with relatively cheap tickets, a focus on fans owning the club, having a few scoops as I watch the game, an atmosphere to make the hairs stand up...and I want it at Anfield (so much)...in fact I'd sell our soul to some Qatari telecom company for it...but I still don't think it will happen again in the near future and I can fully appreciate the reasons why.
With my knees, I couldn't stand to watch a match anymore. I was always a Koppite back in the day. Loved every minute of it. Can't see it ever happening again.
you old fart RHC lol, my grandad used to stand well into his 70's, but it was a struggle for him, but he was so passionate about his football. sensitive area esp among the families effected by Hillsborough, it would be nice to have the option once more, but as Billy quite rightly pointed out when its first implemented and money is in the game standards will be very high and safety wont be an issue, that will arise at some point and money and standards will drop just to save a few pounds. 50/50 for me, although i do appreciate standing wasn't the main issue, it was being treated like animals that was, and herded into cages. lot better than it was but still a mess that i don't honestly know if it is a good idea or not as the value of a life now days seems to mean ****all unless it affects some ****s in power financially or politically.
I never got the opportunity to stand in the Kop (I'm not as old as RHC! <laugh). But agree with Billy - seeing Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion is mesmerising and I would love to be able to stand in such an area.
Thank you I'm just a huge fan of English football. I have a soft spot for Wimbledon because I lived there when I was in England, but I just follow the league in general. Huge fan of Liverpool's history though, I hope you guys get back to the top soon.
