Hughton wasn't defence minded when he was at Newcastle because he had PL quality attacking players. If he had been able to spend £8m on a striker like Benteke the style of play would be different. Hopefully RvW and others will bring that change next year.
I don't think posters are under any illusions, I think most people realise that the chances of Hughton getting his chance next season is almost a dead cert. He will be given the chance to build his own squad but if the quality of football and results are poor come Octoberish than I think questions will have to be asked.
Personally I'm not keen in Martinez. Yes, he keeps Wigan up season after season, but he also gets them into the relegation battle season after season. If CH goes - which I don't expect will happen unless we are relegated - I'd like to see a more imaginative appointment, and certainly not one of the usual merry-go-round horses.
To be honest, I wouldn't mind looking abroad after seeing the success Southampton and Swansea have had doing exactly that. I don't know who off the top of my head but would definitely be worth a look. I wouldn't even consider getting rid of Hughton if we didn't have someone lined up to be honest. I don't think there are many good available British managers available at the moment.
This is a tricky one for me,as someone who only had Hughton as third choice.I think that the argument that if he keeps us up even with an equaliser scored with a Mark Bunn header in the sixth minute of injury time on the last day of the season then he has to have been judged a sucess.Having said that though last season and this have been cheese and chalk, and I don't particularly like chalk even with some fresh granary bread and a nice pickle.Come to think of it if Wigan get a couple of straight wins we could get the nice pickle, only kidding.
keep CH, get rid of his backroom coaches, except Watson. they are the ones responsible for training and set up for matches, so must take much of the responsibility. bring back Culverhouse.
Chippy - wasn't trying to give you a lecture merely counter some points being made on the thread. Yes we are a Premier League club with very little external debt but we are not going to attract a big name manager unless we pay them an enormous suim and they would only come if offered an open cheque book to spend on players. Sadly it is a sellers market out there and we are not the most attractive club for a top manager to come to. Harry Redknapp is a big-name manager who plays good football but QPR are still going down. People are talking about Holloway - one season of attractive football in the Premier League followed by relegation, Martin O'Neil has not exactly torn any trees up at Sunderland and been sacked. Who are these big name managers playing the right sort of football who we could attract? Why would Martinez come here even if Wigan go down? I would imagine that a season winning the Championship would be more attractive than leaving one relegated club for another one who will be among the favourites to go down? Of Lamberts three seasons one was in League 1 where we were a huge fish in a small pond and another was in the Championship which is not the same quality as the Premier League - look at Chris Martin's goal tally (although I completely accept that he did a brilliant job for us there). Last season we had momentum and played some brilliant football and overachieved to stay up in 14th with arguably the weakest squad in the division. IF CH improves the squad and we playi the same kind of dire fare that has been served up to us since Christmas then I will be with the rest of the people calling for change. I don't think that CH is deliberately playing poor football and historically his sides have played a more open, attacking Norwich-style. Currently he clearly does not feel that he has the players to do this and survive and so he is doing what he can with what he has with, we all hope, a view to improving next season. I feel that people have unrealistic ambitions on what can be achieved in a short timescale. Next season without a shadow of a doubt there will not be any team currently in the Premier League with shorter odds on relegation than us, just as last season and this season and this will probably continue until we have brought better players into the squad but this will take time and sadly we are fighting for players against clubs with at least the same financial clout as ourselves. We are not going to get England internationals deciding to come to Norwich because we can fill a 27k stadium when they could earn twice as much and play in front of more and equally loayal fans for one of another dozen sides in the division. We are not going to be able to tear up the Premier League playing wonderful football like we did in the lower leagues. I'd love it if we could but this is not going to happen, if at all, for a few seasons yet and we have to accept that with the way football has gone those with the deepest pockts win the most games and the most trophies.
Re: the original post I would like Zola or Poyet (both gambles I know but might get entertained occationally!) I would like to think that there will be a review at the end of the season with DM assessing the overall performance of the managment team this year and then listen to the outline for the coming season. This to include; -What went well? (We stayed up fingerscrossedemoticon)(We're out of debt) -What could of gone better? (2 wins in 18,19,20 or God or wigan help us 21 games) (malfunctioning substitution board - only works after the horse has bolted) (Football so dire that them from down the A140 have started to get all bolshee again and even stoke can ridicule!)(Luton!) - Transfer targets ( DM can get a feel for where CH might take the team tactically) - A vision for the coming season - Tactics, formation, improvements and how to win back the viewing public (Lets face it Dave, Delia et all have sat through these games too!) Essentially speaking I think that he needs to persuade the board that he will take us forward because with only 2 wins in half a season the board will not be doing their job if they do not question how he will turn things around. In the board I trust and if they see fit to keep CH (I will not be happy, surprised or even particulaly upset) But if he does stay he better get the team playing some football otherwise he'll lose the fans by October! Sorry at least I started on topic! Bah!
To be fair unless CH actually reads opinions on forums (which I sincerely doubt, he'd be mad to!) then it really does little harm. We are all together in support of the yellows. I will be back in Norwich for the game and will back the lads, I agree in the ground that booing would be counter productive. If however Villa do to us what they did to sunderland (Even with our home record over the season, such has been the performance level of late that I can't believe we will do better than draw) whilst we make no attempt to win the game then I expect a round chorus of boo's and might join in, please CH and the team don't leave us in that situation and lets try to win this one! If we at least look like trying to win then I will applaud the endeavour even if we lose. back on topic, whats Mike Walker doing these days? Bah!
maybe he should get a new assistant and dump the guy who screwed Holty up at florist and has now done it again here keep CH get Hucks on the team to develop the attacking options
get Hucks working with the Murphy boys at once. if he can teach them what he knows they will become brilliant players, given their own basic skills.
Blimey, you are joking......aren't you???? He's nothing more than Fergies lapdog and always will be!!
