I did the BBC predictor with honest predictions and I had Newcastle go down... I hope this isn't the case as I like Newcastle... Pardew needs to do something... anything to get them going again
you think I typed veritable... and spelt it right without carefully plotting my wind up. I apologise to SD for being a cheeky so and so.
Wigan are down. 5 points behind is a big gap, even with a game in hand. The only reason anyone is giving them half a chance is because they've escaped the last few eyars but I think their luck has now run out.
I agree with this, they might beat one of West Brom or Swansea, I can't see them winning both, arsenal will beat them, villa won't be a pushover, but they might get 6 points. I can see Newcastle beating QPR, making them safe. Wigan are down for me.
so basically everyone thinks it sone game to safety for the sides on 37 and wigan have too much to do. I think their games before the fa cup final are both winnable. It'd be highly ironic to think an fa cup run distracted them enough to finally break their streak. I can see them winning both games for sure but i think westbrom away is harder.... villa on the last day IMO need that 5 point gap cos it'd be an amazing last day fixture if not.
Well today has breathed new life into the final relegation spot dog fight. Everyone thought wiganw ere gone but "I can see them winning both games for sure but i think westbrom away is harder.... villa on the last day IMO need that 5 point gap cos it'd be an amazing last day fixture if not." Wigan showed the fight i saw in thier last two games today and they just beat west brom to put the willies up at least 3 sides. Fulham 2-4 Reading Norwich 1-2 Aston Villa Swansea 0-0 Man City Tottenham 1-0 Southampton West Brom 2-3 Wigan West Ham 0-0 Newcastle the table is now 12 Fulham 36 -11 40 13 Aston Villa 36 -21 40 14 Soton 36 -11 39 15 Norwich 36 -22 38 16 Newcastle 36 -23 38 17 Sunderland 35 -12 37 18 Wigan 35 -22 35 Right now nobody even on 40 points are safe. Fulham and southampton have been bessing about thinking they were well out of it and showing no willingness to try to push up the table. Same for swansea but thats another story and it could apply to midweek! Norwich and Newcastle have to be feeling very very uncomfortable knowing that swansea travel to the DW for a crucial game now. Wigan could be in 15th by the time the FA cup final starts if they play thier cards right! Sunderland have 2 points overwigan and need to win against stoke. The grinding stoke team that have come to their senses need to continue fighting but may also think they are safe on 40 points I dunno but i find this fascinating and think this could be a big shock. Newcastle are in desperate shape right now I feel. Norwich are singularly uninspiring also so if wigan, sunderland and villa keep this winning habit going form is all that counts now. no form = relegation.
If Wigan beat Swansea I can see Norwich or Newcastle going down. If they don't then I think they're gone as I can't see them beating both Arsenal & Villa and Sunderland/Newcastle & Norwich not getting a win in remaining games. Will certainly be an interesting last couple of weeks though.
I did a predictor after last weeks game and Norwich ended up the relegated. Today has done nothing to change my mind, except that now I can see it being Newcastle (or Norwich still) Wigan have that game in hand, the easier run in (now that Villa are virtually safe) and have the knack for escaping. It would be funny if it was Newcastle, Their 'great' scouting network, the 8yr contract for their managerial hero, the 'bargain' French buy (who seem to be doing the typical French thing and surrendering), the whole Carroll issue and for course the dickheads in charge of Newcastle. Would be disappointing to lose such a well supported club though
I think wigan can take 5-6 points. This weeks match v swansea is crucial, the swans are on holiday since january and frankly they are lucky not to be drawn into this themselves. NOBODY is talking about how michu, luadrup et al have just failed to show form for 3 months. 40 seems to be safe but i'm not so sure. Like when westham went down with 41 if things go wigan's way totally i cuold see a huge turn aorund again... its amazing how they fail to play each year for 7 months then play for 2... here's the fixtures right now: Sunderland v Stoke Wigan v Swansea Aston Villa v Chelsea Norwich v West Brom QPR v Newcastle Sunderland v Southampton Arsenal v Wigan Man City v Norwich Newcastle v Arsenal Southampton v Stoke Tottenham v Sunderland Wigan v Aston Villa When i do the predicter http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/eng_prem/predictor/default.stm I think that the key games are: sunderland v stoke Wigan v swansea Norwich v west brom Sunderland v southampton wigan v villa I also ended up with norwich going down due to an inferior goal difference so the canaries need to get working and win at home v west brom. Do that and i think they can be safe. Sunderland showed weak will with that big loss. they thought they were safe which shows why the players in particular at that club are to blame. IF MON couldn't get them to bother why should dicanio? They must win tomorrow. Wigan could be out of trouble by the fA cup final but i can't see them playing the cup and then arsenal and having the gas in the tank to win that. I think it has to be final day drama here.
I had a go and ended up with Norwich going down. I assumed Newcastle could overcome their poor away form to beat QPR though.
quite a swing isn't it. everyone last week thought it was wigan ,they win one game and look much better. NOrwich i think everyone is alinged that the cannot see a win coming. Thats why i said the norwich v west brom game is now vital.... i dearly hope tonight's game goes sunderlands way.
Hopefully Wigan can beat Swansea in their game-in-hand. Would put them, Sunderland, Newcastle & Norwich on 38pts with two games each to play. Fulham (40), Villa (40) and Southampton (39) would all be sucked in too but since Villa and Wigan have to play each other...
According to DiCanio his sides ready for a big game v southampton now for one win for safety. I think he should have been saying that about stoke frankly. I don't think they've done enough. 11 Stoke City 36 9 14 13 32 42 -10 41 12 Fulham........ 36 10 10 16 46 57 -11 40 13 Aston Villa 36 10 10 16 44 65 -21 40 14 Southampton 36 9 12 15 47 58 -11 39 15 Sunderland 36 9 11 16 40 52 -12 38 16 Norwich City 36 8 14 14 34 56 -22 38 17 Newcastle..... 36 10 8 18 43 66 -23 38 18 Wigan Athletic 35 9 8 18 42 64 -22 35 19 Reading....... 36 6 10 20 41 67 -26 28 20 QPR............. 36 4 13 19 29 57 -28 25 Its amazing how the entire bottom half of the table are still in trouble. usually there's some separation by now and 5 are fighting. Wigan v Swansea = biggest match of the season bar none Aston Villa v Chelsea is still vital as villa's goal difference could still put them down. Norwich v West Brom QPR v Newcastle Sunderland v Southampton By the end of this weeked we'll know who's the FA cup champions ~(disgrace IMO, why is this in the middle of the year, sop to CL teams thinking they would be in finals of that??) AND may well be looking at the bottom three. Wigan need a big win to boost GD and swansea don't give a rat's proverbial now. 3-0 would really shake things up. If that happens then Sunday is simply a huge day for the three sides playing. They won't all win in all probability but the side who does worst for me looks to be in serious trouble then, they all play top 4 sides!
Wigan 1-0 agaisnt Swansea. I think every neutrul is hoping for them to hold on to really bunch the table up. I must admit I thought they were down when they were 5 points behind, always thought points on the board were safer and their luck/skill at getting out of trouble was going to come to an end, but win tonight and I think they could stay up. Norwich look in trouble, form wise and the fact they have no one that can score. I keep thinking Newcastle will be fine based on the attacking players they have and Collocini is back now but QPR away and Newcastle at home aren't easy fixtures. Arsenal also play Wigan so have a huge bearing on relegation.
huge result last night. swansea exploit wigans terrible defense and now we are looking at a real dogfight for wigan. I can still see a way but a difficult one and not really a cliff hanger ending. 3 points behind and GD level.... FA cup final trashing first then off to the emirates for thier hard game. they could be 6 points off the safety zone by then. In reality I can see them being 4 points off someone and maybe scrape a draw at arsenal.... That's very doubtful given wigan's defence. If one of the sides playing sunday who are on 38 points lose then that'll give us some last day drama... otherwise i think we are all in for a feet up, youths out on the pitch kind of finish to the season
14 Southampton 36 9 12 15 47 58 -11 39 15 Sunderland.... 36 9 11 16 40 52 -12 38 16 Norwich City 36 8 14 14 34 56 -22 38 17 Newcastle United 36 10 8 18 43 66 -23 38 18 Wigan Athletic 36 9 8 19 44 67 -23 35 Villa are on 40 so should now be safe but you never know. It could all change. I think sunderland can match wigan next game and be safe and maybe southampton are too. I just can't see arsenal losing at home but thats football yeah? I think only norwish and newkie are in any danger now. two draws to safety? dodgy way to go. next sunday will sort this.
