This quote summed it up for me: We simply lack intelligent players; players who have the presence of mind to make the right decision. Suarez is often the culprit for wasting good opportunities but his genius can mask that inefficiency a little. Coutinho not only has the vision but he also has the ability to execute.
Too early to say how well we'll cope without Suarez. The barcodes were so bad on Saturday I think we can reserve judgement. What will be interesting is if we keep performing that well without him in the next few games...
Need to get players on his wavelength. You can see when we do we just tear team open and are presented with very good clear cut chances.
Think the author makes note of that AND the fact that wen we get na early goal we smell blood and normally thump teams.
His through balls are definitely more suited to Sturridge who can use his pace to run onto. And I agree - we need more intelligent players. Good players (no matter how small and weak they may look) will always settle well and will gel with other good players.
Another part that popped up in the Newkie game, the Vill game, and I think the spurs game. The commentators couldn't help themselves talk about how "weak, frail, small, dimmunitive, etc" Coutinho is......... so?????????? He is a goodplayer, good players always shine through. Loved that for the third goal, he bossed Debuchy off the ball in the build up. dimmunitive eh...
He may not be able to bench 200kg but players like him know how to use their body to shield the ball and keep it away from the defender. That's worth more to me than some 6ft + brute who can't control a footballl.
Our style undoubtedly suits teams that come to play an open game so us getting the early goal will benefit us. However that's still no good when we are leaking goals (Everton, Arsenal (a) and City spring to mind). These days most teams who have a top goalscorer seem to be labelled a "one man team". Obviously over the course of a season we would be better off with Suarez than without him just as Spurs are better off with Bale, United with Van P, Chelsea with Mata etc but none of those are one man teams any more than we are.
just put suarez WIDE RIGHT for downing. he is a world class outside right. stop the false 9 bollixology... a guy o nthe shoulder of the last man is more valubale in the english league. 4-2-3-1 its the only way to go. get coutinho in the advanced central rol where he can play i nthe centre circle and forward. get gerrard back taking the ball off agger and carragher and stop them trying straight 20 yard passes into guys who are easily marked... let gerrard pass the damn thing. simple.. we have to fix the patterns of play not worry baout who's missing in a broken system
It was Ben Arfa he barged over for the ball, not Debuchy. However I do agree with everything you've said
Ahhh that's right as HBA was holding onto it for far too long. Forgot about that. Age BH, age will always get you!
Ech, they called us a two-man team in 2009, when Gerrard and Torres were out injured for large parts of the season. I think we already knew we could win without Suarez. This isn't the first time he's been banned, you might recall. And I think Villa putting 6 past Sunderland puts our little win against the Toon Boys Club in perspective. It's not exactly 1-4 at OT or 4-0 against Real in a CL quarter, is it?
It isn't those results but it has been awhile ( think Rafa was the last one) we gave a prem side a good thrashing.
