Apparently Red Bull kept trying to work the undercut, but Ferrari were managing to pit Alonso on the same lap. Horner alluded to this after the race by saying the threw Ferrari a dummy which they fell for. I assume this consisted of a fake radio call to Mark which Ferrari fell for. It does look highly suspicious because Fernando pitted just ten laps into his first stint on primes, meaning his final stint was 27 laps long. Mark went on to do an extra 8 laps and emerged from the pits ahead of Alonso. Red Bull have said they've revised their pit procedure to give Ferrari less clues as to when they'll pit (something which could be vital in Monaco).
They probably just watch for when the mechanics start to look lively in the red bull garage. Nothing new there
Probably. Just seconds before Alonso's final stop (just as Button came out of the last corner ahead of him) the Red Bull mechanics rushed out of their garage and took up their positions at the pit box. The Ferrari crew were only a second or so behind them. As Alonso pitted the Red Bull mechanics ambled back into their garage. Marko is claiming wire tapping but Horner was more careful saying it might have been something as innocuous as a mechanic putting his hands in his pockets at the wrong time.
Maybe, but whatever it was, sadly for Ferrari it didn't work out too well did it. Perhaps they need to resort to more subversive means after all they are good at that.
Ferrari need to play their own game. Theyre losing too much pitting with others. Even lost a championship from it last year...
I agree. They tend to focus too much upon the activity of others. And this mentality includes at least one of their drivers…
Marko never claimed "wire tapping". As he is not the best in diplomacy combined with his strange kind of old mens humor the whole thing was just blown out of proportion. I saw him on austrian TV after the race and there was actually a little smirking in his face while questioning this.
It's a fair cop. A number of reports linked his accusation of "espionage" with his comment that Ferrari reacted when Red Bull "called Mark into the box" and took it to mean listening in on the call.
Al Qaeda's Maranello cell were thwarted in Monaco thanks to eagle-eyed/paranoid Red Bull intelligence services.
Uh oh, Ferrari are watching us!... Quickly! to the red bull mobil!!! please log in to view this image
Lol, wonder if they had some listening devices in there? You know, Ferrari need the help when it comes to strategy OR it's Vettel's, and he's showing his true allegiance prematurely. His contract isn't up until end of 2014, someone remind him
Why are Red Bull even complaining about Ferrari copying their strategy, it won Vettel the WDC and also helped them in Barcelona because Alonso had to a very long last stint on the primes and ended up getting lapped. If I were Red Bull I would be saying my strategy in an overly loud whisper right next to the Ferrari pit wall.
