So forgetting that tonight's game involves our nearest and biggest rivals, what outcome do people want???

I mean which outcome do people think will provide us with the best chance of staying up? In the aftermath of the Liverpool game I was thinking nothing but a Sunderland win will do, but after taking bit more time to look at the table, I actually want anything but a Sunderland win.

A Villa win is the best outcome, as it drags more more teams in to the sh*t with us. Regardless of our form, West Ham & QPR do have on the whole inferior squads than us ability wise, they're games where we should be getting points from. For me the more teams in with a shout of going down the better for us, hence me wanting a Villa win (for reasons other than the simple fact that I hate Sunderland).

So, what's the general concencus then? Villa win? Draw? Sunderland win?

Unfortunately I'm not techinically gifted enough to create a poll so we'll just have to have a good, old fashioned debate <ok>

    I'd favour a draw.

Villa would still be 2 points behind us and Sunderland just 1 point ahead of us.

Don't kid yourself fella anything other than a Sunderland win would be a disaster for you.

Us on the other hand would take a draw with stoke and soton at home for our next two games

A Villa win gives you a bigger chance of going down. If your happy with that then so be it.

I disagree, Stoke have won their last two games keeping clean sheets, Southampton nearly always score...tougher games than they look on paper.

Apart from the much heralded glory of creating an incontinence bag filling world record if Sunderland went down, I think it will help our cause if they beat Villa.

I just think if Villa win tonight, then we're all on 37 points. If we then win against West Ham (current form doesn't point to a win but it's not inconceivable) then we're 3 points ahead of Sunderland and they'll then have massive pressure at home to Stoke on the Monday night.

A few "Ifs" there obviously, but it's not like it's the most improbable set of restuls. We basically can't really lose tonight as one of our rivals will be dropping points.

I agree I'm just looking on paper the same as you and see we've scored 5 and conceded 1 against in the last 3 games (Chelsea, you lot and everton) picking up back to back wins. We look harder on paper to them then they do to us and if you can't base your predictions on form then what can you base them on?

I think both will be ok but neither Sunderland or ourselves should kid themselves, we're deep in the **** and form/confidence with sides like our two is fragile and susceptible to pressure. I think Sunderland will win though.

You're the form team of the botom 6, no doubting that. Problem with being so low in the table and close to the bottom three is that one bad set of results and the pressure on the next game increases 1000% and it's so easy to lose that momentum & confidence, it only takes one game to do that when you're near the bottom of the league. You only have to look at us to see that. I just think the more teams involved, the better for everyone down that end of the table. A Villa win would mean that pretty much, us, you, Villa and Wigan will all be involved up until the last game of the season in my opinion.

A draw is my preference. But a crazy situation this is.

I understand where you're coming from, however I'd rather keep a 3 point gap between us and Villa as it's less likely their younger, inexperienced squad would cope with pressure as well as Sunderland. I also think that if we ended up on the same number of points as Villa and Sunderland after tonight's game they would gain momentum and crank up the pressure even more on our fragile lot.

Agreed, with our squad we shouldn't be in a position where we are worrying about the results of other teams just to stay in the league.

Really has been the worst season I've had as a supporter, even worse than when we went down purely because of how talented this squad actually is.

It lacks cojones though which is probably more important at this end of the table <yikes> For all their talk about Carr finding the right characters, I'm not seeing many at present

I'm not so sure it does, look at the effort/fight at home to Benifca, home to Fulham when Cabaye & Marveaux collapsed to the floor in exhaustion when Cisse scored. A last minute winner against Stoke, Anzhi etc. I just think the players no longer have confidence in the management team so sadly they've stopped fighting for the manager.

I do think, hope & pray that the fans exiting the stadium on Saturday will help remind the players that they have a duty to play for the fans as well as the manager though.

We both just want Wigan to fail big time and not pick up another point (even though I would like the to stay up, only team never to be relegated from the top flight and they were in the Northern Premier League in 1978 its like Blyth or Whitley being the the PL now)

you have 2 games away, you have won 1 game away all season doesnt boad well at all, we have stoke after tonight at home Stoke primarily play ****e away again only won 2 away from home all season.

We beat you and Everton 2 of our bogey sides, AV are playing well as well atm, personally i think us and Villa will get out of it, you may not get many more points (if any) but Wigan just have far too much to do and an FA cup final to take their eyes off the ball in the league, so you will stay up as well albeit in 17th which isnt great but its PL football next season.

btw for tonight i have gone for a 3-1 villa, win i just think we will come down with a bump tonight.

I tend to agree with this to be honest, I've advocated all along that whilst there's been mistakes made throughout the club we should stick by Pardew as he hasn't become a bad manager overnight.

Unfortunately, for whatever the reasons and I get a feeling there's a few issues behind the scenes, the players are no longer responding to the manager. It's this that worries me more than the players not being brave or committed enough.

I'm a selfish fecker... my love for the Toon and premiership status far outweighs any bitterness I have against the Mackems.
for tonight only Matthew.... I want SAFC to win.
