The latest Goalkeeping news ahead of the "prestigous" Switzerland game :

Following the withdrawal of David Stockdale (an unexpected wedding?), Fabio Capello has been descending down the list of England keepers. He has managed to persuade Robert Green who had previously absented himself for the game.

Green is called up behind "wee willie" Carson and following the "request not be picked" message from Ben Foster.

It is clear that Scott Loach must have been crossed off the list, this is not a good development for him.

Looking on the brightside, it means he can jet off to Malia, Ibiza, Shagamoose or Napa for a well deserved break - and no puns from me regarding there is no chance of hom catching anything out there!

I think this is simply that there are several Premiership players who are ahead of him, this is nothing to worry about, and in fact surely its not a bad thing that he is not getting taught by 3 different coaches (AC, U21 coach and Full team coach) the man is already established at U21 level and we should be happy he is gaining this exp not wining or griping that he is not getting a full call up.

He wasn't even called up to the U21s, i think it's good for us that he's getting a well deserved break so he can try and get his head back in gear...

    Agree Hornette.

Elixir: I don't think it's a catastrophe for Loach to be behind Hart, Green, Carson and Foster at this point in his career. Stockdale perhaps.

Let's not dress it up, he's not in the U21 squad because Psycho has decided not to pick him, and he's not in the England squad because the five players listed above appear to be higher in the manager's thoughts. Nonetheless, I think it's a blessing in disguise, and six weeks away from the game will do him the world of good.

I don't have a big problem with Loach being ignored - Scott needs a break IMO, but "wee willie Carson" is a dreadful keeper and I can't believe he is 2nd choice.

So you end up with Hart - undisputed 1st choice and the other 2 have been thrown away only to be recalled when others are "unavailable". I sincerely hope Loach has a stormer next season before huge cash offers come in and Bond proves he is the no1 at Watford. Sorry Gilmartin but you are a mistake waiting to happen.

Based on two mistake-dominated performances, an average one and a good one?

Loach has had worse four-game sequences than that.

i watched Gilmartin play in the pre-season matches last summer and was worried. He was not, in anyway, filling me with positivity! The fact that we will probably have Loach for at least another season is a relief if our choice is Gilmartin. At least he gets another season to improve. I will be watching in the pre-season again, and praying he's upped his game in the last 12 months!

If we are honest..would you have picked him on this season's form?

I am sure Loach will improve with time but there is clearly a lack of decent English who want to play for the country (so not Foster or Green) goalkeepers around.

Joe Hart is the only one getting regular 1st team games at the top level.

i was gutted when RL left...i know he made mistakes, but i did feel safer in his hands. However, i think his going was money related rather than anything else. He didn't want to go, but i suspect now he wouldn't want to come back, though it was good to see him at Vicarage Road when he came for a visit before the end of the season :)

Come on guys - don't get too depressed - he had by his standards a poor season - but he knows it too - he will come back on form - underneath it all he is a good keeper - needs a change of coaching methods perhaps
