Rooney has played everywhere in the midfield and has 10 goals 12 assists in the league compared to Welbeck on 1 goal, 4 assists. Rooney's had loads of injuries and niggles yet still has been much more effective. Welbeck's only 2 goals in the entire season (Stoke and Madrid) were both assisted by Rooney. I'm sorry to have to say it but you're talking rubbish and basing this purely on the second leg against Madrid where they'd have been better off starting Rooney anyway. You used that example because it's literally the only example. He's been used as a sub against QPR and Fulham. Those aren't big games and Welbeck was on the bench as well anyway. Fulham he came off the bench and got injured (gash on leg). He didn't play the next 3 games out injured after which on return from injury he came off the bench at half time against Spurs and they pulled 0-2 back to 2-3. The second game against Spurs he'd been out injured 4 games prior after a knee injury on Christmas day. He came off the bench in that one as well. So he's only bench on the bench 3 times out of the manager's choice and two were weak opponents. Welbeck has been used as a sub 14 times in the league and twice in the CL.
If goals and assists are all you consider in a player then yeah, Rooney has been much more effective, but you're comparing apples to oranges. Welbeck may not be much of a goal threat (especially when he's playing on the wing as he has done for virtually every game this season) but he is consistent. You know what you're going to get from him, 100% effort and teamwork every game, and that's not the case with Rooney, who has had plenty of very mediocre games lately by his standards. Ferguson said himself after the West Ham game "as for taking him off, he simply wasn't playing as well as the other players". Can you imagine him saying that in the past? 10 goals for a striker of his reputation is not particularly impressive. He may still be more effective than most other players, but in my opinion he's having one of the worst seasons of his career. And he's played ONE game in midfield!
No. You're talking nonsense. United play 4-2-3-1 normally with Van Persie at striker. You don't have a clue. How the **** do you think Rooney is playing anywhere but midfield? Rooney normally plays CAM. He's played RM, CDM and various others positions as well. You're talking rubbish. He's actually played ONCE at centre forward, once left forward, once right forward. Other than that midfield. He is a midfielder. He's not a striker. His preferred position is CAM and he's by far the most effective there. As for recent games what the **** are you even on about. 3 games ago he got man of the match at Stoke playing CDM. He got an assist in the last game he played. Welbeck is consistently average or below average. Fantastic!!!!! http://www.whoscored.com/Players/3859 Stop talking rubbish. I'm not replying again as you don't have a clue and are just typing a load of bullshit.
Rooney roams around but is normally a 'number 10', his position is behind Van Persie but not in midfield. He played in midfield against Stoke, I think even you will appreciate that's a different position to where he normally plays. If you want to call his normal position 'attacking midfield', well ok, but he's not 'a midfielder' by most people's definition. Also he wasn't man of the match against Stoke according to the website you cite.

Welbeck? The most over rated player about. Wilshere? He's barely played this season. No Rooney? No Walcott? No lennon? Dawson of spurs has been quality this second half of the season.
Shows how weak England is on the left: Young has played little, Johnson hasn't had a great season and Chamberlain still hasn't reached his potential.

Lethal dosage of it, yes. Just look at some of the comments about him on this thread, and every England match thread. People hate the guy.
