....IMO A hard lesson learned by the board. The will is there and the funds but this has been a cruel cruel two seasons for the board, staff and fans. I honestly believe we can do it. In all honesty as an RRRRR's fan (like you all) we have never had a smooth ride but i really believe that this lesson learned will stand to us. Thoughts and constructive comments to the discussion welcome.
I wish I could be as optimistic as you, it would be great to be back in the PL stronger and rid of the wasters but I cant see it.
Yep, your point is a fair one flyer but hopefully we can offload them...or a season in the champ'ship will buck em up. Saying that though some of them are just greedy feckers with no desire for the team. Maybe i am living in hope ....but if we can't live in hope that those at the top can figure it out then we may as well settle for always been the little club that almost did. I do however take your point.
I separate hope and belief, i hope it will happen but dont believe it will, it might take 2 or 3 seasons. Look at Wolves and Blackburn. i dont think we will be that little club for much longer once the stadium is done, then the hate from other fans will really start up.
I thought we would bounce back up the last time if we go down I don't se it happening this time either
I agree with Flyer in that I hope it will happen but I am not too sure it will unless there is a serious overhaul of our playing staff in the Summer. I just don't think the current crop of players have the guts that it takes to grab games by the scruff of the neck and turn losses into draws and draws into wins. There is something seriously lacking with them. Based on the current squad, I have huge reservations about our chances of coming straight back up. If Harry can offload a good few and bring in some young hungry blood instead, I might change my opinion.
I love your optimism Tipperary but how can we know any lessons have been learned? We've stunk out this league for the last 15 months and we deserve to go down. Prior to that we were punching well above our weight and playing well. As part of the discussion anyone got better performances than the ones we gave against Citeh and the Toon two autumns ago? We should run a poll. Can I quote myself? http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/114809-38-Days-later The minute TF tossed NW we were ****ed and that's the truth. I hope everyone who wanted NW gone is happy now. Those of us that didn't have got what you deserve. This is no way to run a football club. Hopes for next season? Only one tbf. No more chairmanship by Twitter. That's it. If I have to see one more upbeat tweet about "keeping the faith" or "we were unlucky", I think I'll spontaneously combust. Back in the days of the Cold War I imagine Igor sat in a dingy kitchen under a 40w lightbulb in his grey high rise listening to a crackly radio churning out tractor production statistics. I know how he feels.
I don't think we would be any better off now had we stuck with the excuse machine that was Warnock how has he done since he left
One pundits prediction last year: Prediction: Although it is easy enough to say each teams promotion hopes will be based on their dealings within the transfer window, you can never rule out teams such as Leicester City who will no doubt splash the cash in hope of promotion. I think one of the relegated sides will win the league next year. Who it will be is too hard to guess at this current stage. But with experience currently resting within each squad, all three have to be clear favourites to go up, whether it is automatically or through the play-offs. Josh Sweetman Not as easy as he thought at least!
That's typically the pundit's view of who will go up every year. The bookies lists will have us as favourites because Harry is manager and TF spends silly money. The reality is there are far better footballing sides than us in the Championship and we have a long way to go to just match them. Also, bear in mind that Harry will now be measured against Warnock's side of three seasons ago. If we're not making a flying start he could find himself under pressure early on, just like it was in 96-97. That time we bought Sheron & Spencer for silly money and we didn't even make the play-offs...
I agree. All focus now is on Harry. Does he have the expertise to bring in two or three dynamic overseas players? Will his scouting set-up help him identify young, ambitious players of great quality in our lower divisions? He should have the cash if he can identify them. Is Harry a wily old fox or a has-been that's spent too much time in the ivory tower of the Prem. I believe the former, but it may be a close call...
I can only see a few current players doing anything next year in the champ, Green, onoua M'bia Jenas, think hill Derry tabs Mackie either too old, not bothered or not good enought, the good players Remy Cesar Samba will be off and Bosingwa park SWP Zamora, Granero not wanted, we'll need a whole new team, dare I say it will need time to gell, so it's at least two years in the champ, if we are lucky and patient and Tony stays, if he doesn't it doesn't bare thinking about.
Personally I think we'd always have struggled in the premiership with the way things panned out after promotion. The lack of money to rebuild the squad, which was warnock's intention as he stated before our promotion season even started. So he only had 4 days to buy players, and he bought very badly! Maybe panic buying and on paper they may have been shrewd buys. Indeed, things did look for a short while like he might have got it right, swp was on fire, Barton was becoming the fans darling and Ferdinand was starting to look solid. But it didn't last. Was Ferdinand right? Many will point at our relegation this year and say no, but then we might have gone down last year if warnock had stayed. So in comes Hughes, and he too is faced with the same problem, a squad he feels isn't good enough and a short time to fix things, but he too trued bringing in expensive experience, but again the immediate effect was positive. But again it all started to go wrong. But unlike warnock, Hughes then had the luxury of a full summer to rectify things. But Hughes did do something's right, by looking to bring in some big experienced players, but then relied on ageing sick notes, and this bit him on the arse, cause as soon as anyone got injured we were left with no options, or ones that just weren't good enough. So yet again, we are faced with a new manager who isn't happy with the squad we've got, the difference is that the players we now have are very good, the problem is they have under performed. Trying to rebuild a team in one summer isn't going to work, especially when you lack a captain and leader who is worthy of the role. Yes we had Derry, unfortunately he was just too old to take that role in the premiership. But now, the fact that we are going to be stuck with some of them, their experience means we can introduce young blood. Plus the players who have let themselves down will want to put that right. If we make samba captain, which is the plan, being in young hungry players to learn from the experience, then hopefully not only will we see good football, but the birth of a team with sprit, belief and the hunger to move back up and succeed in the premiership next time around. I hope!

A common phrase on here recently has been 'young hungry players.' Sorry, folks but look at Harry's record. He finds experienced hungry players (Merson, Sheringham et al) and he'll do that for us for sure. Key word is hungry. Getting out of the NPC requires heart and passion above all. And that's all I want to see. Don't we all?
How could we possibly be worse off? I repeat we have stunk out this league and deserve to go down. Anybody disagree? How have we done since he left? How did we do before he came? Complete and utter short-termism from TF and some fans alike. We were crying out for stability and success. He delivered both under really difficult circumstances and got shafted. To go back to the OP, what has been learned? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...job-is-safe-despite-poor-start-to-season.html Now that's an "excuse machine". All the training ground/academy/stadium plans in the world mean nothing if we have a circus on the pitch.
