Well the quotes are from the same time as the games I listed so they seemed relevant to the argument. Personally I dont think we have a clear cut #1 right now. Klinsmann has tried Johnson, Gomez, Wondo and maybe a couple others. I think in the end like you say, Altidore will be the one he goes with. Maybe it is splitting hairs but I do not think that Altidore is the clear cut number 1 in the same way he was when Bradley was the coach. Yea I agree a work in progress. I think that the difference between 30 years ago and now is that he has Donovan, and Keane just feet from him. There has to be something to an 18 year olds development in regards to being next to quality players. An american 30 years ago or even 10 years ago in the mls would not be in the same position he is currently in. Last weeks game was a good example, you could see Keane taking him to the side a few times after darting in the box and pointing out what he should have done, that has to help.
Yep born in Hull (Fairfax Avenue) in 1939...family had lived in the East Riding for generations. Emigrated to Canada for Grad school in Vancouver after Uni in 1962. Then moved to SoCal for work in 1970 and lived there for 35 years. Retired to Salt Spring Island,BC 10 years ago. I've supported the Tigers since my first game in 1948...only ever had one team. Get back to the UK to watch almost every year now. Wembley was one of the great events of my life. Hope we'll make it back to the Prem tomorrow.
Altidore had many off pitch problems when last here which did not help his form. He has improved no end and this time i think he would be a good PL signing for us. Remember Jon Walters ? He also had problems when he played for the Tigers. At the right price he would be a good signing again.
He is certainly knocking them in, a hat trick the other week. He has obviously matured, maybe worth another try if the price is right.
