So, did we have fun with that? Rest of the draft should be a lot of fun, second round starts at 11.30 tonight
In isolation it was bad business, but I think the Patterson trade has to be considered in the context that Vikings got three first-rounders with five lower picks remaining. They also have an extra third round pick for next year to play with if they're looking to trade up. Only one QB in the first round, at #16?
If you get three long-term starters, you've had a very good draft. I'd be very surprised if Rhodes and particularly Floyd aren't hits, because I really like them both, and Patterson could well be. It's not a disaster purely because of their other two really good picks. And don't get me started on EJ ****ing Manuel.
I think you've got to look at that Vikings trade in the context of getting three first round picks, with five lower picks and a 2014 third round pick to play with if they want to trade up.
Right... let's try this one last time. I think you have to look at the Vikings trade in the context of having had three first round picks, five lower picks to come, and eight picks for 2014. Plenty of options if they think they need to get into the second or third round.
Does anyone know how first round contracts work in regards to the salary cap? Do they all get the same or is it done by position, where you were picked etc? Trying to work out if it is actually a possibility for the Vikes to move back into the 2nd round, and the only thing stopping them is if they are restricted by the cap
Really like the Viking's work, I like Floyd and Rhodes, Patterson I'm less sold on but all in all a very good haul, paid a lot for it but I like when teams are aggressive and go after what they need. And they've still got five more picks with which to try and grab a couple of decent players. I think if two of those three players are hits then the Vikings will be in really nice shape. It slides down from about $20m for the first pick down to $6m at the thirty second and goes from there.
Hmm pretty sure that means we won't/can't get a 2nd rounder without freeing up some cap space. Think Vikes only go back in if Minter/Te'o/Brown fall to the late 2nd round, which is unlikely to happen
Not position at all, only draft position. They're all cheaper than any vet starter would be anyway. Mathieu is a really exciting player, better than any other corner in the third for sure, shame he's such a monumental dickhead. Tank is brilliant and I thought he should have gone in the first.
Yeah that's what makes me unsure of Mathieu, looks a good talent but will his ego get the best of him?
I dunno... I don't think that'll be a problem cause he works very hard, ethic isn't the issue. I think he's more likely to get locked up than anything else! But who knows, give him $$$ and he may well think he's done enough.
Not a fan. He'll be 25 this season, and raw doesn't do it justice. Want him to do well, obviously, and he can be, but it'll take a top end OL coach.
