I have never ever once been excited by the way Barcelona play football. Not once. For me, rather ironically, what they play is the name they once came up with - anti-football. 30 sideways passes then back to the keeper every single effing time whilst the media cream their kegs over it.

That's ****ing annoying, that's what I was getting at with my plan b. they ALWAYS play it safe and go for the possession option, sometimes there's times when a player maybe free in space maybe 20/30 yards away, but they won't take the risk in case an enemy player picks up on it. It's great an exciting when they're on top and doing this chip balls and pinpoint laser designated passes through hordes of enemy defenders, but that's usually only a small percentage of the game with the rest being mind numbing passing between defence, midfield, defence, goalie and repeat until one of the enemy markers steps away from one of their wide men then they might think about moving it forwards a bit.

That will explain why they score so few goals then. (Irony alert warning).

This is a very good debate to be honest, nice to see opinions expressed like this. What it boils down to for me is do you like Barcas style or don't you, and I personally don't. As for St Pauli, I'm surprised that a few people seem not to have heard of them I would have thought they would be a name known to most footy fans these days especially with the manager games and so on like Bullshit says

Last season Real Madrid set the record number of average goals per game for a title winning team in the history of European football. So Barca scoring 'that many' isnt really so impressive.... Another serious point - why wasnt more made of Real's astonishing record? It's not cos the media is Barca obsessed perchance?

Went to watch them a couple of seasons ago - the team comes out to ACDC's Hells Bells and they serve gluwein on the terraces in winter. What's not to like? *

    * save for the links with Septic

I've got a St Pauli hat, not seen them play yet though. Going to a Bundesliga game is on my list of things to do, been to Germany several times but always pretty much out of the football season and to more touristy parts like the Mosel area near Cochem and the Black Forest.

So, going by your logic only the most is impressive, Barcelona having the second most is nothing to shout about then? You will disappointed we only have the second most points in the division as it is not that impressive compared to the team with the most?

I went to Hamburg in the 1960s and St Pauli was a well known area then but not for the football.:emoticon-0105-wink:

    On Twitter:

    EA SPORTS FIFA @EASPORTSFIFA
#Lewandowski's agent: "We have reached an agreement with a Club..." - Where will he go?

Unreliable, I know (EASPORTS) but they do only tweet about players if they've seen it from Sky Sports/BBC etc.

Rumour is that he's following Gotze to Bayern.

I'm familiar with that aspect of it from Sven Hassel novels, I think the lads from the Penal Battalion were quite fond of a night or two down the Reeperbahn in those books!

Yeah but that doesn't actually happen does it? That's just what someone made up one day. It's the Barca equivalent of "Gerrard and Lampard can't play together."

On the subject of all these German lads leaving Dortmund, is there something in Germany that makes it easier than in England to get transfers sorted this early? Podolski did it with Arsenal last year and it seems like the transfer window is in full swing in Germany at the moment. In England it's almost unheard of.

great to see both German teams play a traditional centre forward, a big target man !

You had Spain playing a midfielder up front in the euro's. I hate the tip tap football which is focused on keeping the ball rather than actually scoring a goal.

I didn't see either of this week's games but from what you're saying it sounds like they both played one up front? Wow that's very attacking of them! Spain played 4-4-2 at the euros. Fabregas played up front but that doesn't make it any less attacking. It's only like Koren or Boyd playing up front for us. How many teams scored more than Spain did while they were more focussed on keeping the ball by the way?

The annoying thing is, there'll be another thread soon about whether the PL is competitive with the other top leagues and people will say it's miles behind because we don't keep the ball enough. All it comes down to is that German football is cool in England now and nothing else is.
