I seem to remember I didn't vote in this poll because I didn't want to be like any of the teams on offer. Everton would be the only one I'd pick today. I can't believe that 39% of the people who did vote wanted us to be like Stoke!
With respect Chilco, the question wasn't really what club do we want to emulate as in style of football and suchlike....it was which club would we most closely resemble by league position and achievement....Obviously Everton are a more attractive proposition than Stoke but I would most like us to play in the style of Manure and Swansea which we are doing with some success.
It's interesting to see just how far we have come in in a few short years...I've resisted a cheap dig at Pompey out of respect to you PL.
That's what mid-table with nothing to play for does to you. We haven't had one of those in a long time.
No I understand that SA, and although obviously I wouldn't want Saints to play the Stoke style of football, the low-risk, bus-parking style might (more or less) guarantee you Premier League survival, but it will never win you any trophies or get you into Europe, which is where we want to be. It's no accident that the team playing the best football this year, Man United, has comfortably won the title. Everton and Spurs have also been easy on the eye, and they are well up the League and challenging. Swansea would be as well if their form hadn't dropped off lately.
How about a nice European team, rather than a stuffy old english team. I've been reading plenty about German football for a while and they are supposed to be some of the greatest football days out - on the whole its english PL, with financial sound clubs and more beer and families (granted there is the odd set of hooli's but that happens everywhere). Or perhaps Atletico Madrid - we won't aspire to Real but Atletico will do. Decent players, good attractive football, never overstepping the ambition too much and the odd title..
I think German football is perhaps showing the way, but then again, I thought this at the last World Cup, where the German team were just brilliant to watch, even if they didn't eventually win the trophy. I honestly hope Guardiola doesn't screw around with Bayern too much.
Well I guess now is the time is near enough to review this thread....Congratulations to those who voted "Everton" as the club we would mostly resemble in league position and standing (at the time of the original question Everton were 7th, Stoke were 13th, Wolves were 17th and Forest and Boro were in the Championship).
God that is an astonishing find, well done! I can't remember anything even vaguely important I did 3 years ago let alone a forum post.
