...till we find out who's released. who's being offered a deal. anyone have any thoughts on this? only big surprise, i think, will be haynes being let go
I was thinking this myself whilst watching the Wolves match... Cant place my finger as to why either Also believe the following will be released: Bradley Wright-Phillips - (Didnt look impressive for Brentford last night) John Sullivan - We've got Button and Pope as backup to Hamer Jordan Cook - Too injury prone this season... checked the Squad lists for Yeovil and has only appeared once for them Yado Mambo - How long do we go on waiting
Agree that all names mentioned so far will go on frees (but a small fee for BWP). I thought Osborne might leave too, but our spies at the reserve matches say he is getting back to his best after a bad injury. I think Stephens will be sold for half a million, and Taylor, Evina, and either Green or Wagstaff (maybe both) for nominal fees. I would love to keep them all, but we apparently don't have much money and cannot afford to keep players on senior wages who rarely play in the first team. And they all deserve the chance to play regularly elsewhere. Not sure whether Fuller's contracts expires this summer. If so, he may go too if the medics give a bad prognosis on his fitness. I imagine we will give new contracts to a lot of youngsters but I am not sure what status they all have at present because the OS is not very informative.
bwp is out of contract. he'll go for nothing. think taylor and evina will stay myself. I hope waggy stays but cant see it.
I would love to see Taylor, Wagstaff and Evina stay but if they push to get regular football elsewhere I cannot see the club stopping them. I suppose they could stay and go out on loan. Of course, if we sell Wiggins and/or Morrison that changes things. Thanks for the heads up about BWP. We wouldn't have got much for him, anyway. This thread should open with a list of those out of contract for those less knowledgable than yourself. If Smith's contract is expiring he might go too. His development seems to have levelled off. I suppose Gerard, Lennon, Sho-Silva, and Poyet will be offered full pro contracts. Not sure about Derry, Muldoon and Phillips?
Tom Derry has already been released - Saw something on his Twitter page about having trials with Millwall and Gillingham... Be interesting to see who else goes from the U18s this summer. Kerkar was in my thoughts for being released and would agree but I reckon it depends if we can bring in someone else to play on the left as we'll need someone as backup for Harriott Again think the same with Evina... He'll stay as he's useful backup for Wiggins - If we did get another Left Back in then he may go, but who else would be happy to sit on the bench other than Fox maybe?
At first I agreed with this as a given, but thinking about it you could make a case for him. Mambo is still an u21, no great age for a central defender. Last year he played a lot of games for Ebbsfleet in the Conference National. This season he first played a dozen games for Wimbledon in Div Two and is now a fixture in an improving Shrewsbury side in Div One. That is pretty good progress for a young player in one season. (If he climbs another two tiers next year he will be playing in the Premier!) It could be that he temporarily "outgrew his strength" to use the quaint Victorian phrase still heard in my childhood, and could now regain his confidence and co-ordination. I still expect him to leave, but less because of his lack of progress than because we are awash with other CBs (Morrison, Devite, Cort, Taylor, Feely, Ajayi, Osborne, Lennon). Unlucky, really. Were he a right-back, where we have only Solly as specialist, he might well be kept on.
This is a list of players out of contract in the Summer,I didn't realise it was so big: GK - Sullivan DF - Evina, Taylor, Cort, Dervite, Mambo, Cousins, Osbourne, Fox, Ajayi MF - Hughes, Wagstaff, Kerkar, Harriott, Rouamba, Harris FW - Haynes, BWP, Fuller, Pigott, Azeez Who would you keep?
Evina is too good to spend another season on the bench, if even that, so he will go. Haven't we got a lot of CB's? Dervite and Morrison are playing their way into a very good partnership so should stay. Taylor to go. Feely to challenge for a first-team place. That leaves Cort and Mambo. I'd keep Mambo, but we'll probably keep Cort, so Mambo will go. It seems a bad move to let Harriott's contract run down, he's solved our LM problem, but could leave for nowt. CP said he wanted to have a look at Rouamba, it seems he has seen enough.
i'd keep DF - Evina, Taylor, Dervite, Cousins, Fox, Ajayi MF - Hughes, Wagstaff, Harriott FW - Haynes, Pigott, Azeez give the youth a chance, whilst getting rid of big earners
Purely hypothetically and leaving aside any consideration of finances, the only players on the out of contract list that I'd want to keep are Evina, Dervite and Harriott. From a quality perspective I'd also want Haynes and Hughes but fragility and age are against them. I've not seen the other youngsters on the list so will defer to dick and fHB who are rather better informed. Then we get into the variables - what if we have no money and are forced to sell Wiggins, Solly, Stephens and Hamer (the only four in our squad who are realistically profitable). Even if we are not forced I suspect we will get an offer for the two fullbacks that will see them wanting to go (Wiggins looks a nailed on replacement for Baines at Everton if he goes elsewhere for example). If they have go then our finances mean we will be shopping at Lidl and some of our out of contract players (Kerkar, Waggy, Taylor, Cort) suddenly become as good as anything we are likely to attract so they might as well stay. A few are bound to be pissed off - Evina, Waggy, Taylor and will probably want to go anyway.
i'm not so sure with some of this. just because wiggins is also welsh and a left back doesnt make him a replacement. he hasnt been as good this year, or played as many games. i dont think waggy would leave as he seems to just like being part of charlton. he's been unlucky to have been dropped as i think he's a good player. evina will probably stay. he moved back from oldham as he had to live in london. who else in london would take him? he wouldnt go palace or millwall, and the rest of the teams in league one are too small for a player "who used to play for arsenal"
Very helpful list, Dick. Thanks. Whom we keep will in many cases depend on our finances, which none of us know in much detail, and on the prospects of getting new money in (which may not exist at all). It also depends on whom CP realistically thinks he can get in. For all we know deals may already have been done in both directions. So for us, any speculation is "for amusement only" because we really don't know zilch. However, I not averse to a bit of free amusement, so here goes. My forecasts are assuming a realistic/pessimistic view of our finances. Things could be a lot worse than that, or somewhat better if we sell Stephens for more than I expect. GK Sullivan - leave DF Evina - leave (sadly) unless we sell Wiggins. The guy deserves regular first-team football. Would keep if he converted to LM but he has had two years to do that and it hasn't happened, so either he or CP is dead set against it. Taylor - leave unless we sell Morrison Cort - worth another one year with our medics approval Dervite - worth a two-year contract if he doesn't want too much Mambo - leave because we have three good youngsters in the pipeline Cousins - worth another year (or two?) Osbourne - leave because we have three better youngsters in the pipeline Fox - worth a two-year contract if he doesn't want too much Ajayi - worth another year (or two?) MF Hughes - worth another one year with our medics approval Wagstaff - worth another year assuming we sell Green, but don't keep both Kerkar - leave (wish him the best with a Continental club) Harriott - two year contract if he agrees, but why has this not already been done? Worrying! Rouamba - we know little about him, but presumably CP is not impressed. Could stay around for another trial period if CP sees promise in him Harris - leave. Would keep if still an u21, because we lack an u21 RM, but he won't be one next season. FW Haynes - leave. I am hoping that we will use some of the Stephens money to sign another striker. If not, could keep Haynes for a year with our medics' blessing, but that might not be forthcoming. BWP - leave Fuller - worth another one year with our medics approval Pigott - worth a two-year contract if he doesn't want too much Azeez - worth a two-year contract if he doesn't want too much
its starting to happen... sullivan just announced he's off on twitter. earlier, evina said he always has to take a positive out of a negative. think he's off too
