Sad indeed but I'm not quite understanding, it states that a director had paid the £3000 to hmrc anyway even sadder that Swansea and Cardiff couldn't help save them for a miserly 10K each or that they couldn't organise a 'save the club fund'
It is sad, But unfortunately, Llanelli werent very realistic from the outset, they were along with Neath paying ridiculous wages and it was never going to be sustainable. FAW Pl sides need to get real, It should be no more than a league full of good quality part time players. Lets hope other clubs see sense and no more go to the road.
It's sad to see obviously, but like any other business , if it can't sustain itself then it should be closed. It's harsh yes , but people including the owners of clubs should realise that it's a business first, constantly putting money into it is a recipe for disaster IMO
totally agree with you sussex, Its peanuts to us and we should help. we even use llanelli for our reserve matches and by not offering to help such a small sum of money to save them is not looking good in fans eyes.......there are fans who support llanelli that support us also......we should have helped them in their hour of need....
I disagree with that, why should our club help a club who's been completely stupid ? If by paying this debt it would have still left the idiots who caused this problem still there.
have we not been stupid in our time jager? we got lucky and had help but as llanelli is a small club then they need bigger clubs like us who are in a position to help....I dont mean throw money at them but give them a lift up and a start to their recovery.....we needed that little bit of help in our time.....If they fail after being helped then so be it but at least we would have tried to save the club in our catchment area.....Its peanuts to us but a fortune to them to find that sort of money.....
As Dai said Jager, we were helped by fans of other clubs, so maybe we should have returned the favour.
Yes we have been stupid Dai, but when we were stupid the people owning the club have now gone, hence the reason of getting rid of Petty when we did. If we paid the debts off of the club, it would still leave the same source of the problem there. Why throw money away to someone who is incapable of running a business?
On this, can I ask how do you know we didn't try and help them? The Swans are not a charity mate, despite our riches now.
no we are their next door neighbors who are using them for our benefit so why not help them to get on their feet...Its not a big deal to us but a life saving deal to them. We were quick enough accepting money from anywhere we could to save us even before the petty era........we have had to borrow money when we were skint many times in the past....
Yes Dai, but lets face facts here, would you be happy for our club to give money to someone like Petty ? Now I'm not saying that they are like him, but they are certainly incompetent. If they can't pay their taxes they are insolvent if there is no chance of improvement . There was no cva set up and ample time sort this out. As I said its harsh, but the swans are not a charity, and they can't just bail out companies that we feel they should. Llanelli like Neath before them over spent and were bloody stupid, I don't think the swans should financially back bloody stupid.
