Hoop dreams: QPR vow to keep relegated squad together in bid to bounce right back 22 Apr 2013 22:30 "For that reason every player under contract must stay unless we get the right offer" says chief exec amid talk of a mass summer sell-off Doomed Queens Park Rangers have told Harry Redknapp no players will be sold this summer without his explicit blessing. Owner Tony Fernandes began planning for life in the Championship in earnest 10 days ago, when he made a 28-hour round trip from Malaysia to attend his Hoops' 2-0 defeat at Everton. He met with chief executive Philip Beard â and it has been decided that players Chris Samba, Loic Remy and Adel Taarabt will only be offloaded if the west Londoners receive offers which are too good to turn down. Rangers have net debts of about £89million, but Beard said: âWe agreed that if weâre relegated, we have to bounce straight back. "To do this, we need the strongest squad possible and for that reason every player under contract must stay unless we get the right offer and Harry agrees to let them go. âThe commitment of the shareholders, including Amit Bhatia, is clear for all to see, and despite what has been a desperately disappointing season, the long-term future is very bright.â Boss Redknapp admitted QPR blew their slim remaining survival chances by losing 2-0 at home to fellow strugglers Stoke on Saturday. "For that reason every player under contract must stay unless we get the right offer" I hope we have some players coming to the end of their contracts
Personally that's the kind of thing I want to hear - from the horse's mouth though. That, and that if there are lucrative offers, that we'll only refuse if we haven't been able to secure suitable replacements. Oh, and another goal scoring front man please!
I'd say it's a good thing because I still believe those talented individuals could make a team. I don't want 15 new players and some more gelling time. The thing I don't like is that it contradicts Harry's wholesale change comments from last week. The main thing we need is stability and that comes from the top down.
PR exercise....HR already said we have to many on high wages & some aint good enough Also said they werent a god enough team Many going from what i can see!
maybe we need 15 new players this lot have had more than enough time to gel no sign of them even knowing each others name yet
I agree with you Kiwi. Get rid of the f++++++ lot of em apart from maybe half a dozen. Lets start from scratch and build a new squad around the few players we want to keep. From what I saw on Saturday after Taarabt and Townsend went off, the vast majority of our squad are plain and simply not good enough, even for the Championship. Lets not kid ourselves. We are where we are because we deserve to be there. We do not have any hard luck stories. We bought a bad bunch of players and that's the long and short of it all.
I don't fully agree with that mate. They certainly haven't performed and seem to lack any fight, but I believe our squad is good enough to be top 10 in the Premier League. It's a real dilemma. It's a little worrying that there are two completely different strategies being spouted by Harry and Beard!! I sense more unsettled times ahead.
Perfectly said .............. No more gell time, give us some stability and and rid the team of any sh_itkickers .............. we need to start pulling in one direction. May need a striker or two. Let's see how genuine Odemwingie is now about joining us. He will be on less coin so it would be very interesting to see if he still pines for us. If his heart is in the right place and he wants some game time, I reckon he would be worth a look.
Enjoyed this part: “The commitment of the shareholders, including Amit Bhatia, is clear for all to see, and despite what has been a desperately disappointing season, the long-term future is very bright.”
Three or four of the top earners will probably have to go for financial reasons. It will be interesting to see who Harry lets go as that may indicate who hasn't been a good boy
If I was Beard, looking to sell players to get their costs off my books, I'd start by saying we want to keep them all - to try and keep the sale prices up. You don't want to let everyone go for nothing unless you really just want to get them off the wage bill and nothing else. There are one or two in that category. ;-) Of course, we all know that's not really true, but you have to start from somewhere... N
Whilst I like the sentiments, a couple of things concern me with this. Even if a player is under contract, if they don't want to play for you they are not going to give the commitment that you need. At the moment we look a very disjointed team which with the current mental attitude would probably struggle in the Championship too. This is really the reason we are in this situation in the first place. So if the current sqaud is to remain together, a huge shakeup in mental attitude is going to be required if we are to bounce straight back.
Harry knows who he wants to weed out and the board are just saying that they will keep everyone together and won't let anyone go ... unless Harry agrees. Ball in Harry's court. Is Remy the only one with a release clause in his contract? I trust Harry to bring in better/hungrier players. Remy and Townsend have been good. Mbia and Jenas good in parts .... and our favourite (who most on here desperately wanted to sign), Samba ... ****. A much better record than Warnock's signings (albeit last minute desperation jobs) or Hughes' (most who have been very disappointing.)
