Hello All Hope those Monday blues have evaded the majority (howâs the weather in Humberside?) as we continue to clutch at a straw or two⦠Have found some statistics, for want of a better word, which may be of interest to those of you on the other side of the fence! Our last gallop into the top flight came after a 3-0 hammering of Leeds, in Cardiff, following on from our end of season stalemate with Hull City. We could secure promotion against Leeds with Cardiff already up, and on equal points with Hull which is uncanny. Mackay won promotion, albeit with us, Steve Bruce going the opposite direction into the Championship. Coincidence? We went into that season with a next to new squad with one or two notable loanees in Ben Foster and Marlon King, who later signed a permanent contract in January â Step up Fernando Forestieri. Our last play off attempt came against the Tigers and they piped us to it, went on to beat Bristol City at Wembley and play Premier League football the following season. BUT they couldnât repeat that victory last week which could prove very costly indeed. Oh, and a certain Lloyd Doyley has been through it all... Just to throw that out there. Make of it what you will! I donât think the notion of Hull dropping points is too inconceivable... Little over a week ago it seemed as if sods law would prevail with 3 of the 4 remaining games against the bottom 3 but here we are, 1 point from 6 and no goals scored! ANYTHING can happen this weekend. It could come down to us needing just a point against Leeds to go up, so donât be too presumptive just yet. If nothing else, an excuse to make myself known!
Welcome I think take each day as it comes!!! If we win on Friday, which we can, and Barnsley come out all guns blazing against Hull on Saturday AND and Hull slip up...... I would not bet against us! Fingers crossed.....
Thanks YorkshireHornet - Think i am going to have myself some of that northern air your smoking... Seems to be HEAVILY anisthatised, all things considered!
Its going to be an immense finale to a really exciting season...provided of course you beat (or at least draw against) Leicester on Friday. That's a reasonably big 'if' I think - Leicester are drawing games they used to lose and winning games they used to draw at the moment. If you do beat Leicester, the pressure will be piled on the mighty Tigers on Saturday, no doubt about it. If you don't get three points, I think its game over for you lot. I'd say overall the not606 Hull fans remain cautiously optimistic, mainly because we have to. If we don't get the automatic spot we're well and truly stuffed - I don't see us bouncing back from holding second for so long and then dropping into the playoffs...we're scraping through by the skin of our teeth at the moment. I think Watford will get at least to the final if you do get playoffs - so many goals in your team. I'd much prefer you lot go up than any of the rest in any case. Hoping you lose at least one and then barnstorm your way through the playoffs.
Pressure will be on both you and us. As you know you have to get at least a draw against Leicester (away may suit you better as less fans to create a pressurised atmosphere), but Leicester will be fighting for those 3 points. Pearson deep down does not want to see the team he walked away with going up and not the team he is currently in charge of. And if you win on Friday then the pressure is back on Hull - and an away game against Barnsley to contend with, which is an interesting game to assess (as the pressure will be on Barnsley from their home fans to get 3 points to try to avoid relegation, meaning they will be more attacking than normal - maybe leaving holes at the back which Hull would be looking to exploit)
Even if we pull a draw from Leicester, Saturday may in no uncertain terms become a lot harder for you to negotiate...
One thing we can't be accused of at home is creating a pressurised atmosphere! Yes, Leicester certainly need those points too if they want a play-off spot, so presumably will be going all out to try to get them - which is more likely to suit us. I know we shouldn't get too upbeat over 45 minutes of football, but we did appear to have regained our lost form in the second half on Saturday - and if we maintain that, Leicester will attack us at their peril. I do think we will win though - and turn the spotlight onto full beam in Barnsley the day after.
I think you will win at Barnsley so fear nothing we do will make a difference but would like to see us win at Leicester so that we have done everything we could
Think your right Leo can see Hull nicking a 1-0 agin barnsley. Still would be nice to upset fester as I cant remember us doing well at the crisp stadium in last few years.
Being a Season Pass holder with City for many years now, I know full well that nothing with us is a formality. We're so totally unpredictable and if we'd have beaten Bristol City on Friday, it would have been totally out-of-character. We like to do things the hard way (At least it gives us stronger hearts...). I can't say with confidence what the result against Barnsley will be, but I fully expect Steve Bruce to be drilling them into a particular mindset. I think our performance and desire will be fully determined by your result against Leicester. Anyway, it's been a thoroughly entertaining Season, and all the best! (After we've hopefully earned Promotion)
I usually need about one hour to make it happen. If the girl in question was very pretty that could be a lot faster.
Have said it before but the Hull City visitors on our board this season have been absolutely top class. It's been an amazing tussle and I hope we can take it to the wire. If we don't I'll be one of the first to say well done (and then pray to god we can negotiate the play offs!).
If we go up we'll have all the scousers on here telling us how crap we are and how we don't deserve to be up as we're cockneys - I'll be in my element .
welcome to the board, uOrrrns ...good post! I love how that kind of thing happens. I've already started having sleepless nights, i'm going to be a wreck by Friday, but i do hope we can win it to keep the pressure up...what a great last day it would be if Barnsley could then do us the favour...can't see that though, sadly...
After my huge success this week in the prediction league, (fluke) I thought I would have a go at the Beebs predictor. This was the result. Cardiff 87 pts Watford 80 Hull 80 Brighton 75 Palace 74 Bolton 70 At the bottom Blackburn 54 Wolves 51 Bristol 42 Probably all wrong, but a bit of fun.
