Morning y'all, Somma has once again gone under the knife, this time to repair a damaged cartilage. This surely spells the end to his once promising career. His contract at ER (pardon the pun) expires in June, and I cannot see it being renewed. Its a shame, as he had a lot of promise. If he were a horse, he'd be packing the shelves at mylidlpony right now!!! After the 1-0 defeat at St Andrews courtasy of a Hayden Mullens goal twenty minutes from time, McDermott was in reflective mood saying 'job done'!!! He went on to say that (obviously) the main objective was to say in this division, and that is what he has done. I hate to say it, but I think I jinxed the game on Saturday. I got home from work at 4.30 ish, turned the computer on, loaded up ustream, and five seconds later Birmingham scored.... Have you ever jinxed a match? Do you believe in jinxing?
Morning Elland. Apparently it was a minor Op. brought forward to allow him the whole summer to recover & work on his fitness. As I've said before, I think he will be given a short contract to prove his fitness & then a proper length contract if he can. He is potentially a class act with a natural eye for goal. If next season is to be our season for at least top 6 & a serious push for auto, we will need people like Somma who can have an impact on a game. On jinxing, I'll let you off because I too took an age to get connected to LUTV only to then hear Brum score. I can't believe that BMD seriously thought there was a real danger of us going down. That said, we didn't & we can now look forward to a lively couple of games to end the season followed by a serious amount of speculation as to who's coming and who's going. Wonder if I can get a job at ER oiling the front door. There wll be quite a few coming in or leaving. That revolving door is in for some serious work over the next few weeks. Here's to a lively few months.
Morning gents. Whether Somma recovers or not, he's a luxury we cant afford. in a couple of seasons, he'll have contributed virtually nothing. Isn't it amazing how we constantly attack a player like say Michael Brown, and probably rightly so, but is fit to play in most matches, yet we defend Somma and Kisnorbo, injury prone disasters who only play a handful of games for us. In an era of clubs tightening their belts with reduced squads, clubs just cannot afford to carry long term injuries. On a plus side though, arent all players insured ie club reimbursed for long term injuries or career ending scenarios or does that not exist anymore?
Morning all - Allow Somma to go, is he really going to feature ahead of the rest and wouldn't we like a more prolific scorer to join or for Poleon to shine...
Eire/Ristac, normally I would have to concede and agree, but in Somma's case, he is a natural goalscorer. If we're going to play more footy and less hoofball, he will prove his worth. If, and its a big if, he can prove his fitness, he will be worth his weight in gold. Poleon is one for the near future and should be pushing for at least a regular place on the bench. But at the moment, he's still work in progress. Definitely two candidates for an interesting summer with the possibility that either or both may go out on loan, poleon to show he can cut it at this level, & Somma to prove his fitness.
Morning all Agree with Eire on this. Surely if we are to keep Somma on it can only be on a pay as you play initially. We can't take the risk of giving him even a 1 year extension if he's just going to get a serious injury a month or so in and miss most of the season again. We talk about the need to get rid of deadwood to allow McD money to maneuverer in the market. Assuming we keep our current strikers, Rosco, Morison, Varney, Poleon, then people are saying we need to bring a new striker in. Where does Somma fit into those plans? He's a great potential, sure, but is that what we need right now? We need one of the existing strikers, or a new one to step up and fill Becchios shoes goals wise.
Morning all. Glad this none event of a season is finally over and McDermott has a couple more learning games to go just to learn more about the players he isn't sure about. I'm sure he has in his mind already where he needs to change things.
Why not offer Somma a 'pay as you play' contract? That way it won't cost us anything if he gets injured again. Let's not forget the debacle of giving Kisnorbo a two year contract after he'd been out for 18 months, only for him to get injured again. I love the guy but we can't afford to be so generous with players who have such a back record with injuries.
At least it was lively on here. How are we, or more precisely how is Elland going to cope? Will his digits go in for off season surgery so that he's up and typing come the first day of next season? Elland, where are you going for your pre-season typists tour? The MAC needs to be kept informed!!!
Afternoon all I've said this a hundred time before, this summer is the time to get rid of Somma, he's too injury prone, I'd also boot out Kisnobro as well. There's no need to hang on to player who are on the treatment table constantly. Thanks for your service but goodbye.
Not sure about Somma. He was such a good player in his first season, great eye for goal and always made an impact. Could be a real asset if he gets fit. But that's a big 'if' and unless it's likely that he will get back to full fitness then he should be let go. Looked rusty obviously in his few appearances this season, but still was a threat and quite lively. Gutted for him really.

Patrick Kisnorbo joined Ipswich on loan in the first week of January. He has participated in 4 games - 2 starting, 2 as a sub. He is 32. Great inspirational guy to have in the squad (remember him on the sideline against Bristol Rovers?), but I think his playing days are over. Is there a place for him on the coaching staff at TA? Would be nice but perhaps Naylor, Bromby, etc. have filled all the spots already?
