As delighted as I am about the way things are now going at our club, I am still at a loss as to why MoN couldn't deal with it.

The guy has been a success at every place he has been, he gets the job to manage at his boyhood club..all the ingredients were there, Yet it was all flat and totally uninspiring. I am the first to admit, I was gutted when he was sacked, but in reality, I think we would have gone down if he were still here.

These are the same players...just wonder why he couldn't motivate them to perform the way they are now?? I assume, that there must have been issues that us fans were not aware of.

But thank god for the appointment of PDC...Have to give it to Short, The man has struck gold with this one.

He did motivate them 18 months ago and unleashing McClean was the key to that at the time.

Why it all fell apart 3 months later we will never know.

just hope the same doesnt happen with PDC.

Think most people here agree that MoN failed because he didn't have JR with him. MoN from what ive read wasn't down the pitch taking training, and the coaches he had with him weren't up to the job. He didn't have anyone willing to tell him to pull his head out of his ass and change things. He looked lost at the end, and didn't know what to do with no one really telling him as it was. The coaches couldn't motivate the players, and they gave up caring as their manager didn't believe in them.

PDC shows he believes in them, and is willing to work hard, and expects the same back. Plus he slaps them to motivate them.

Agree with the OP totally here.

I loved Mon and still have great affection for the bloke. He stopped us going down when if first came but by the time he left we had gone full circle.

We will be the only fail in his entire career so what does that tell you?

I do think that not having Robertson was pivotal in the end and he looked a totally lost soul in those final few weeks.

You can't deny, even a die hard Mon supporter, that relegation was looking likely 3 weeks ago and that PDC's arrival has turned that round.

However one note of caution. Mon had the same effect 18 months ago but couldn't keep it up. I sincerely hope Paolo does continue his good start into next Season.

    For all our sakes.

He had John Robertson with him at all his previous clubs but he didn't come to us and he never had a right hand man as such.

For whatever reason MoN appeared to loose the dressing room, as for the back room staff I have never seen a bunch of less animated people sitting on the bench week after week offering very little to help MoN in making tactical substitutions during most games. Whether it was all down to MoNs way of doing things we probably will never know. I always felt we had a squad capable of a top ten finish and unbelievably they could still achieve that, if PDC manages that then look out for him walking on water over the River wear.

I think these players due have to shoulder some of the burden. They got Bruce sacked, upped their game, then fell away and got Marty sacked and now they are upping their game. So long as they do enough to keep us up this year I'm hoping for wholesale changes next season to the playing staff. I think from comment made by Paolo already he knows his squads limitations and he will be looking to get players to fit his system of high energy pressing.

We've had two managers now who have worked under clough, and it didn't work out for either of them. Clough was a brilliant manager back in the day, but the tactics and methods are dated for this days and age. Look at laudrap, pottechini, and even Poyet at Brighton. Young, hungry, and have changed the teams they have taken over (Swansea not to much of an extent).

PDC as a player was always hungry and worked hard. He will be the same as a manager. He has what appears to be a good backroom team as well, and the fact they work hard means they won't be slacking, neither will the players.

Difference between mon and pdc would be that pdc appears more hungry. His methods are completely different, and I believe will carry on after the honeymoon period. He won't allow it to be any different. I love mon, but I have more faith in pdc than I did in MoN

THINK ABOUT IT both men in ther sixties age wise , both been out of football for a while jr more so , how can they emulate what they used to do twenty years ago, lost touch ,they cant do today what they did before. simple.
i think mo was silly to try , his family thing took pride of place , and so it should, every time, i hope he does not try again with another club.
he should enjoy his time and do his tv bi,t look after his family and relax.
it has been painfull for all conccerned

What a crock of **** you come out with Stu.

Go away and read up on the facts and figures.

Only 10 years ago he led Celtic to the UEFA Cup Final; 3 years ago since he led Villa to his 3rd top 6 finish in the EPL and took them to Wembley in the League Cup.

If you are going to talk ****e at least get your facts correct eh?

Great reasoned retort there and far too high brow for me. For that reason I'm out.
