Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Manchester United will sign Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea this summer.

The Scot told Sky Sports News: "We've been working on it for quite a while, we identified him a while back as one we should go for.

"He's a young goalkeeper, very quick, with good composure and presence. He's an outstanding replacement for Edwin van der Sar.

"We were looking for someone with the same types of qualities. One great quality Edwin always had was his composure and organisational ability.

"David De Gea is very similar that way."

He will cost us 18m and it clearly proves we have money. Many said we would not be able to afford to spend 15m this summer. This deal scuppers such rumors. If we are able to spend 18m on a 20 year old keeper and take that risk it clearly shows we have money. 1st move of the summer and now I expect more.

Just heard this on the radio, great news though it's been as good as official for a couple of days now. Now we can look for that midfielder that we need, possibly Sneijder.

We usually do it early, Ferguson said 3 players will be bought without doubt and maybe more. Keeper is bought now for 18m. Transfer kitty is said to be around 60-70m so I am guessing a midfielder and maybe winger and some young players like Verane.

    I can't say i'm not happy.
From what i've seen he's very quick at coming out to close down the angle for one-on-ones, almost too quick sometimes....

But his shot stopping is top notch...
And with a more reliable/solid line infront of him he won't be making as many saves per-game as he has been..
But this means his concentration will be just as important as his raw skill.

The truth is he'll make mistakes, like every keeper... So we shouldn't expect a finished article yet..

But.....Very excited about this...Can't wait to see him in pre-season action.

Well, we sorted the Valencia deal back in May 09 and Hernandez in April last year so we usually make our major signings pretty early in the window. I think SAF is wary of waiting too long and having the price juiced up by competitors, like happened with Berbatov in 08.

Spot on there, every keeper will make mistakes even the experienced ones. He is a good signing for you no doubt.
