Having seen many many teachers go away for up to 6 weeks in the summer holidays as well as taking time away during Easter, Christmas and other holidays I do not think I have fallen into any trap. Syllabi change but not that much - re-write the whole curriculum every year hmmm. What about teachers of kids up to year 6 ? No - friends who are teachers have always admitted that long holidays are the perk for the job and often the one reason they stay in it. All professions - try being a doctor, lawyer or accountant have masses of time spent keeping up with training etc and they do this without 12 or 13 weeks holiday.

Never mind the 'hmmm' - yes we do. We don't have the benefit of a syllabus here, we work with Outcomes Based Education which basically means that whatever we teach changes year by year by necessity.

And I am talking about teachers of children up to year 6 (7 actually, up here) - secondary school teachers have it even harder as they have to write their own assessment papers.

And yes, we too are contractually required to undertake Continuing Professional Development - both school based and on our own - 35 hours per year minimum by ourselves + whatever the school/Authority identifies as necessary.

All for a quarter of the salary of a GP.........

Good morning everyone from a bright, slightly chilly Weston. I hope all your hangovers have gone after celebrating that terrific second half display yesterday!

Morning all, morning Dave, first up this morning I see (must be the dawn chorus). Great win yesterday let's hope Barnsley get at least a draw next week to make a dramatic end to a fantastic season. I pray for automatic promotion for selfish reasons as I am away in Cyprus on 27th May.

Great debate Bolton & Leo, reminds me of ones we used to have Leo. Still it's nice and sunny here, maybe a little fresh, but must take advantage of the weather.

Thanks in advance for the coffee Ak & for all the others you've served up recently that I haven't thanked you for. ;-)

H is always my 21st rep from the last time, so after ten 2 day gaps, she reaches the point where I have to wait till first place on the third day! You couldn't be more wrong, she is always, always at the front of my thoughts!

Bet you wish you'd kept quiet now, don't you?

Morning all from a bright and sunny bandit country...feeling a lot better this morning than I did on Wednesday. I think yesterday came just in time and sets us up nicely for Friday. As NNW said on a different thread, Leicester will have to chase the game on Friday which is just what we like away from home. Will be a difficult decision who to pick up front on Friday, I would stick with starting with TD and FF...

Great debate from Lenny and BB - I will side with BB as I know from first hand experience just how much holiday is actually "enjoyed" as holiday by teachers.

The locals are feeing a little better after their recent couple of wins and once again predicting "they will piss this league" next season... deluded fools that they are

Can only surmise - perhaps tiredness? He is only 20, and prior to joining us had managed 3 games in 2 years due to injury. The only thing that has 'gone' is his scoring ability - still performs well in other areas.

And, I suppose, opposition defences are awake to him now and he is yet to adjust to that....

PLEASE don't get me to respond on this topic again - you lot are cruel and know I can hardly ever resist a good debate. My memories include a teacher friend almost wailing on their return from 4 weeks in France one summer that they only now had two days to recover before they had to go back to work. I had just got back from two weeks in Devon and was at work the next morning. 13 weeks is a quarter of the year :) - AND they get weekends and only work from 9 to 3 up to year 6 WITH a lunch break. <yikes> BB - do not be drawn - do not be drawn - you are a better man than me :)
