Cpol--I watched most of it and we were bossing things throughout! Had to switch over after death threats from the Mrs who wanted to watch Lee Macks crappy show!
Caught the second half and Kiwomya scored 2 crackers, but Boga was brilliant, another gem of a player
Kind of pointless for your lot really. What do they have to aspire to? They will never get a look in with the first team.
I think you may find quite a few of their youngsters coming through next season, they have some really good tallent out on loan who look ready to fill out the first team squad. They have brought them on the right way with good loans and look ready to reap the benefits.
A bit like dangling carrots in front of donkeys, the media will continue to paint the tired caricature of Chelsea as the club that doesn't give youngsters a chance, and the uneducated public will continue to buy into it. As the signings of Hazard, Oscar, Moses and Azpulicueta have firmly demonstrated our commitment to renewing the team, the notion that we won't give youngsters a chance is not only old and wrong, it is also LAZY-MINDED. Painting and playing to stereotypes, reinforces peoples beliefs, even if mistaken, and validates the place in society of the weak minded and those unable or unwilling to form independent rational opinions. It sells papers! Our youth cup run in recent years is unmatched, and we made it to the next gen final despite giving away significant age disadvantages - up to 3 years in some positions - and without key players like Chalobah and Piazon. As mad as Abramovich may be, it just doesn't make business sense to invest so much in an increasingly successful academy only to impose self-made barriers against that investment yielding first team dividends. In summary, there is something special happening at youth level at Chelsea, and it would be unwise to dismiss our endeavours in this area so off-handishly. In less than a few years I strongly suspect we'll be shoving the words of critics back down their throats.
Thanks, i only asked because it is an unusual name. It always amazes me how many football players relatives get into the game after them, it makes me wonder how many talented youngsters are out their that don`t know how to go about being noticed or get help/a push in doing so.
Two great goals but I think everybody could see we were the better outfit. If Boga doesn't make first team we may as well shut down the academy, the kid is wonderfully gifted, Feruz didn't have his best game but was still good in patches.
Not only are the Chelsea detractors dangerously ignorant and misinformed but also myopic. The only way to make us self sustainable is to invest in young players as they have resale value. There's no way all our youth will make it, very few will, probably only 2/3 from the current crop of 16-19 at best but those that dont can be moved on at a profit. We could easily get £20m for Courtois now, £20m for Lukaku, £15m for De Bruyne, £5m for McEachran, £10-£12m for Chabolah now. I'm not advocating selling any of those players but merely illustrating we could easily make a profit if we wanted to.
Bump! Second leg is about to get underway... LFCTV & ITV4 are both showing the game. Should be a good game with ourselves having to attack to try and reduce a two-goal deficit.
Come on the Yoof! A place in the final against Norwich awaits and lets win tonight and carry that on to Sunday!
Goal! 1-0 to Liverpool as Peterson reduces the deficit to one goal on aggregate. Good goal as he cuts in from the left-hand side, skips past a couple of Chelsea defenders and is able to slot the ball past Beeney in the Chelsea goal. Game on!
Is that Winston's kid out there playing, anyone know, couldn't check the spelling of 'Bogard' anywhere.
1-1 on the night. Lovely counter-attacking goal from yourselves. Nick the ball off us on your 18-yard line and charge forward... Good ball into the right-hand side and a good delivery into Swift who steered the ball home. 3-1 on aggregate now and you're back in control of the tie.
You've won it now. 2-1 to Chelsea on the night and 4-1 on aggregate. Nathan Ake loses his man at a corner and has far too much room to head the ball home. Very poor goal to concede from a Liverpool point of view but you've responded very well to going behind. Which is annoying!
