I cant go along with SOD thinking on this one, if there ever was a chance to give the kids a run its now, Bobby Reid had a good run late last year and so did Wes Burns. There is nothing to lose now, the relegation battle is over

SOd if we keep doing the same things, We will keep getting the same outcome.

If you're so interested in performances, lets see some enthusiasm of youth, at least it makes it interesting for the last games..

I agree banksy. Our season now is pointless, We're relegated we cant move anywhere so why not play them, It wont effect us in the slightest.

    Carey
    Moloney Holloway Nyatanga Cunningham
    Ajala Reid Kelly Anderson
    Burns Krans

Nothing to lose and we can only gain from seeing what these kids are like.

Perfect. I'd stick with this team for the remaining games. I'd like to keep Baldock and Davies in games, but only if they are committed to next season with us in League 1.

SOD should play the kids, not just because they deserve the chance, but to see before pre-season that they are good enough for League 1.

I agree as well but perhaps SOD feels he has to be fair right to the end for the others clubs fighting relegation.

How would we feel say in Barnsley's position if we played all the kids against Huddersfield.

Actually I agree with SoD - if we play all of the kids we may take a right hammering - this could do more harm than good to their development

I would rather see Burns start with a couple of youngsters on the bench

I would be talking to Davies and Baldock now, saying look we have had a bad season, We want to return to the championship as quickly as possible, Will you play for this club in league 1 and help us achieve this, If not then play the younger strikers.

Oh Shiny, if it was only like this.

But it isn't, they will know already (contract) how much they will lose each week by playing in L1.
They could lose as much as £6/7k a week.

I wouldn't and nor would you.

Only if we built in a reduction in wages and even if we did, can you really imagine anyone with a half decent agent accepting that and the players coming here in the first place. I know I wouldn't and bearing in mind that we wanted them here, we probably had to offer unconditional terms.

    OR

you could be right RP and if so, you have probably put your finger on the REAL reason why no decent defender would come here. If you knew that there was half a chance of your salary being halved in 12 months time, would you do it.

I stand to be corrected but I think our boys will remain on their current salaries and if true, I would e very keen to see them stay, at least until January to see if we do well in the division. They would then get to see what AG is like when we have some success (which would be completely different to this year) and they might like to stay and finish the job...

I'm sure that in one interview recently it was said that the contracts included both wage rises for promotion and wage drops for relegation.

J L specifically said and David Lloyd told me before the Birmingham game all contracts have a reduction in salary should we be relegated.

So, if their agents are half decent - 'they WILL be off....'

The 'kids' some already half way thru their potential careers should be given a chance as they need experience if they are to play next season as sorry but playing for teams like weston super mare isnt going to gain the required experience.
Yes they might lose but u can learn more from a defeat than a win and these kids also need to know how it feels to lose. There is little to lose but plaenty to gain.

We are down and players like baldock will be off plus it would also be cheaper to play the kids rather than play the senior players who will lose their appearence bonuses etc if they didnt play which will save the club money

While I am all for playing the younger members of our first team pool, SO'd has already made the very valid point that it is our duty to all teams in the relegation and promotion battles to put our strongest team on the pitch.

How would we feel if we were Peterborough or Barnsley fans if SO'D put out a very under strength starting eleven and it helped Huddersfield to walk away from Ashton Gate with tree very easy points?

Yes, I know that some of us will argue that Joe Bryan, Wes Burns, Bobbie Reid and even Lewis Carey are better than what we currently call our first team; so they may be now or at some indeterminate time in the future but other clubs in the relegation dogfight could argue otherwise.

If SO'D believes that they are better, then so be it but we have to respect the hopes and fears of other sides in the trouble zone, just as we would hope if we were not already down, that they would do the same for us. Sending them on loan, even to teams in relegation battles in other leagues was in the best interests of our very promising younger players.

And the amount of appearance money saved by not playing senior players is not worth worrying about!

The problem is we have to play Hudds, if played the kids and they lost 4-0 or 5-0 with it all so tight at the bottom it could seriously effect the relegation team...expect a bit of play the kids for longer at Charlton as a win or loss here makes no difference

It is our not our responsibility to worry about relegation issues around us. those players are registered first team squad members who will benefit greatly from a bit of championship experience, we should worry about our own club issues first..

Besides, I would suggest playing them at the moment does not weaken us too much anyway...

    It probably would not..

...and would be against "better quality teams!" next season we will have at least Yeovil or Swindon OR BOTH AND MAYBE Cheltenham, 3 LOCAL DERBY'S AND COMPENSATION FOR TRIP TO CARLISLE

I feel we are more capable of getting a hiding off someone with Fontaine at the back and Kilkenny in midfield than swapping those 2 players for Reid and Burns..

both have played championship football recently and never looked at all out of place..
