Sorry, that's actually really harsh on Guly.

    Sorry Guly.

I'm not saying Carrick is a bad player, and has had a good season. But when you think players like Michu who IMO have had a better season, are not even Nominated. If Carrick was playing for mid to lower table team and did the exact same for them, I could almost guarantee he would not be a nominee.

Michu has been quiet in 2013 (not that I think he shouldn't be considered). Carrick has been consistently great all season.

If I could nominate six players they'd be Bale, Suarez, Carrick, Mata, Baines and RVP. So I suppose they've got 5/6 right.

It's the Young Player of the Year award I take real issue with though. Firstly I don't think Bale should be nominated if he's already in the running for the main award. And though I think Welbeck and Wilshere are good players I don't they've been anywhere near the six best young players this season. I'd go for Benteke, Lukaku, Shaw, Nastasic, Hazard, Rafael.

Morgan over Rafael and you've got a deal there.

The real joke is the awards being nominated in February. I think they asked Jos about this at the time and he said because of injuries and fixtures he had not faced a lot of the top contenders.
He went for RVP as a fellow Dutchman too, but not many on here are selecting him because of his recent drought(something yet to happen).

I'd go for Suarez because even though I don't like him I still think he is a great player so I have no bias when judging his form.

And me. Wellbeck gets a lot of stick. He may not be the most prolific, but I'd have him in my side. Good player.

For years we should have built an England team around him. He sees a pass better than any other player in his era. I kept rewinding the west ham game the other night to show my wife his passes. She didn't care at all but I was impressed.

You are right he wouldn't get nominated but he is a fabulous passer of the footballer. A brilliant footballer

Maybe I've just not seen enough games with Welbeck to understand why he was nominated!

So far, from what I have seen he's a flashy player and looks good when things come off but bad when they don't, and he's lucky enough to play in a team that is good enough quality to afford him the luxury of messing around with tricks that don't always come off. The result, his team flatter his performance. In a worse team I doubt he'd look that good. Just my opinion of course!

You could probably make up the young players of Schneiderlin, Cork, Shaw, Clyne, Rodriguez and Ramirez. Some of the nominees, like Welbeck, are quite silly.

If you were only ever allowed to back heel the ball into the goal, Welbeck would be my first pick every time. But that's not a rule, so he doesn't make the cut as far as I'm concerned.

Some people on this thread are suggesting Shaw should have been nominated for the young player of the year. As good as he is, in my opinion Schneiderlin has out-performed him for Saints over the course of this season and, for me, is more deserving of a nomination.

I find one or two of the nominations questionable. Both Carrick and Welbeck are very good players indeed, but both have been bettered elsewhere, this season.

Interesting about Carrick. How have United managed to walk the title this season without anyone standing out as an incredible player like Bale or Suarez etc? RVP's goals had helped, but when you look closely enough, it's got to be Carrick.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure when players like Baines were young, they didn't say "when I grow up I want to be a left back so I can win player of the year awards". In the modern day of bitesize stats, it's not gonna happen.
