No massive surprises, all apart from Danny Welbeck being nominated for Young Player of the year. Which is crazy, 2 goals - Gets nominated... No Saints nominations rather unsurprisingly. Bale is 4/11 for the main award. Benteke at 3/1 for Young player's a good bet.
Welbeck is 22. I don't agree with his nomination but considering he has had a relatively large role with United and England it doesn't surprise me, and he has somewhat media darling status.
If anyone can tell me what is so amazing about Danny Welbeck, I'm all ears. For me, he's bloody ordinary in the extreme and actually getting worse as a player from when he was on loan at Sunderland. Jack Wilshire nominated for young player too, only played about 20 games this year, were those 20 games amazing? Nah, just because he's "a name". Footballers are living up their reputation of not being very bright with some of these nominations.
Eden Hazard nominated for kicking that Swansea ballboy, proving that all footballers secretly want to boot kids. Monsters.
23 and under for the young player awards. Oddly Bale won player of the year without winning young player of the year two seasons ago! Again people judging Welbeck by the amount of goals he scores are completely missing what he brings to a team. You don't play 40 games in a season for United without being a good player. Surprised Michu hasn't been nominated. From our perspective maybe Shaw could have got into the young player shortlist, but I'm not really surprised none of our players have been chosen.
This has nothing to do with it. Lots of young players have had much better seasons than Welbeck. It's shocking that he got nominated.
I don't know why Hazard has been named in the shortlist for player of the year really, I know he's a fantastic player, but he just went missing in the middle of the season and I just think there are people that deserve it a lot more than him; Michu, Baines Cazorla and Vertonghen all come to mind ahead of Hazard for me.
Looking at the list of those that have been nominated, my vote goes to Michael Carrick for PFA player of the year and Christian Benteke for young player. Both players have been massively influential for their respective clubs. Carrick has got no where near the amount of praise he should have had this season, he's a real unsung hero in a United side full of flare type players. His confidence and composure in the middle of the park is second to none and he has been outstanding, playing the best form of his career. Right now, he is easily the best English centre midfielder on current form. Christian Benteke has almost single handedly given Villa a chance to stay in the Premier League. 15 league goals for a side in the bottom 4 is impressive stuff. I have no doubt that without him, Villa would probably be dead and buried by now. It's not like he's a goal poacher either, he creates chances for himself and is a cracking finisher. He'll be linked to a whole host of top sides all over Europe this summer even if Villa stay up. So those two are my vote - what do others think?
The PFA awards are a joke and have been for some time. It's just a shame they still get a lot of media coverage.
