The epl drops in standard every season yet more money gets thrown at them . This week we had Arsenal 0 Everton 0 with one shot on target because it was an important game to finish Fourth ,we were told how good a game it was !!!Then last night 175 grand a week Rooney now playing in Midfield produced a Regi Blinker performance , only getting 6 or 7 touches with no tackles .
Celtic's turnover this season will be around £65m. Cardiff's turnover this season was £20m - Cardiff's turnover next season, with only tv money added on and excluding commercial + ticket price increases will be £75m. They are a bigger club than us after simply winning a single tournament. It sucks.
The championship play off game at Wembley is worth more to the winners than winning the champions league , an utter farce
I reckon the champions of the Moldavian league are pissed off too. I think the correlation might be that no one wants to watch the games they play, because nearly every team in it is piss poor. If you actually watched a championship game you'd realise that the level of footy played is pretty good, unlike 98% of the games in Scotland. As much as you hate(/are jealous) of the PL, it makes money because people want to watch it. The attendance at the top 3 clubs in England is probably more than all of the scottish league put together. (this number is not based on facts, maybe the top 5 teams in England, but still, it's not far off) You do the maths
I don't particularly care for the Premier League as I don't support a team in it but yes I am jealous - I thought I just made that clear. What do you want me to say, it doesn't suck to be a big team stuck in a **** league, watching teams with a fraction of our support base pay much bigger wages than we can afford?
Toby , Cardiff who won the championship , I believe have five players in their team who played in the spl , run of mill players as well , not to mention a Scottish manager .
To a degree you are correct. However the bubble will burst at some point. It has to. At present sky can pay mega bucks for coverage as they can charge customers for the privilege. Eventually the prices will get too much and people will stop paying it and if skys money goes a lot of teams will die. Attendances are dropping also - mainly due to the fact the counrty has been in a recession and ticket prices rise. Clubs cant drop or decrease ticket prices as they are over spending on players to try and keep the fans interested enough to watch at grounds/on tv, trying to spen what they dont have to get to that £60m pot at the end of the rainbow. Something has to give at some point IMO. And lots of clubs (especially those £83m in debt) will be well and truely ****ed. Its a false economy which at somepont will fall on its arse - they are trying to curb clubs spending I believe as someone has clearly seen this coming. The interest is there in the EPL and championship only because they overpay wages and as a result have very good players But it will catch up with them some day - when i dunno - may be next year may be 10 years But i am jealous - Celtic in the EPL with our fanbase, that TV money and increased sponsorship/marketing opportunities, god knows how good our team could be!
England doesn't even make the top ten in football attendance per capita in Europe. What a ****wit you are Toby.
I dispute these figures. Every summer we get told by Sky Sports News and the BBC that the promoted teams and the winner of the Championship play-off will earn £50m+ just for getting to the EPL yet these clubs then go out and only spend about £10m in the transfer market. So where's the rest of the money?
I guess they do a Celtic and stick the money in the bank - if you go straight down you don't want all sorts of players on big contracts on the books. Stick the money in the bank so that if you go down you get parachute payment, can pay your existing wages and are likely to go straight back up again. Do a Portsmouth (or potentially a QPR) and you can **** the club forever.
Maybe partly true but most of the promoted clubs retain the majority of their Championship squad and the players they add are hardly from the top drawer.
The money goes on paying off the £83m debt they got into chasing the £60m!! Or if you are a blackpool etc mainly to the bank to keep the club alive for yhe next 10 years
i bet most players have a epl promotion wage rise nd who they sign probably comond £40k min Look at Bolton - a regular top 10 epl team... now drowing in debt!
