If this thread doesn't bring some kind of comment from Swords, nothing will. And if Swords comments, Imaz will come flying after him. With Bob, Telford and Carlos re-emerging its like the lost tribe has staggered from the desert....good stuff, top posters.

Taarabt will be the the first name I'll be looking for on the team sheet. Then Townsend, then Remy. The rest can wait until I get into the stadium. We are eminently more watchable with Adel in the team than without.

Always difficult to compare to players from different eras. Taarabt would destroy Bowles, mainly cos the game has evolved. No offence to Bowles etc.

It's like comparing Fred Perry to Andy Murray. Or Jesse Owens to Usain Bolt The latter would always win.......cos the game has evolved. So comparisons to older generations are always flawed. Including attitudes.....

Wasn't Matt Le Tissier a bit fat? Rooney too?

If Taarabt was a stone lighter, never threw a tantrum and played the simple ball.......then I would GUARANTEE h would not be playing for us and would be worth £25m

    Good point that Newbury.
2 players who also never lived up to thier star billing (as laid down by the media, promotors)despite being very good
One, a big fish in a small pond who served his smaller club very well. always wondered what would he achieved at a bigger club
the other (Shrek) a supremely talented player that has won everything but seems to choke when the pressure is really on, by that i mean with the national side. Dont get me wrong, his records outstrips most Prem players, but do we think he's achieved all that was expected of him OR because of the media, is it a case of we(the public) expect too much from him.

I dont mean this to sound like a critcism or either, just wondered what you guys think?
Probably one for another thread i suppose?

As for the Tarbs bit...spot on mate!

I agree with the first bit, but your comparisons are a bit too extreme.
Bowles was unbelievably talented and you have to remember that, when he was playing, the opposition were trying to kick seven shades of **** out of him! The game now has almost eradicated tackling, which makes things a lot easier for the flair players. Bowles would have a defender ploughing through him all game and still rip him a new one.

Marsh was just before my time, but my Brother tells me he was as good as Bowles. For me, Stan was the best I've seen in a QPR shirt, but Adel isn't far behind him.
You say Adel would destroy Stan, but I'm not sure what that means?

marsh was a goal scorer with flair, bowles had everything & could score a few, tarbs has unbelievable skill but doesn't score enough & goes missing.

Both Stan and Marsh "went missing" too. Marsh was pretty lazy as I understand it and I always remember some of the crowd getting on Stan's back, whilst the majority worshipped him....bit like Adel now, although his lack of real impression on the Premier League has dulled that somewhat imo.

Stan was also telepathically joined with Gerry Francis - when Francis got crocked, Stan was never quite the same. But one thing he had was variation - lots of flicks and first time passes as well as dribbling, lots of tap in goals because he ran to get in position.

Dodgy penalty taker though, so he has that in common with Adel.

What I mean is that the modern player has evolved. Michael Jordan is a good example. He was a genetic freak, unique basketball player. Now, most NBA teams have a few players that have that sort of physical ability.

Taarabt has skills that are better than what Bowles used to have. It's all kind of relative.
