I think this guy should be a top target for us - people said he wouldnt fit in our system. I think he would fit perfectly. Wenger doesn't wanna play with a proper DM but rather two midfielders holding back and sometimes attacking. This guy is very strong and would win a lot in the middle. When things go bad - he can be a "giroud" type player but do it even better and then next to him we can have a clinical striker instead of a "hold up the ball player like giroud". In other words, he would bring us some strenght (which we need) and alternate our game when things dont go according to plan. What you think?
He could get in any team in the league, so obviously he'd improve us. Plus he gets sent off a lot, so he'd be Vieira's spiritual successor.
He is only 25. This is a reasonable signing for us. I am surprised it doesn't get rumoured more, or that we dont pursue it more aggressvely. For once I agree with you guys. He has the defensive heft a lot of you lot want, but he is excellent going forward as well, and generally on the ball, which you need in that position. In my opinion this would be a good signing. I don't object to the general idea of a big man in that dual-DM position, I just don't want that size to be at the expense of everything else.
That's what I said last night before the game had even finished (on another forum ) and after the game. I even said he could finally be a replacement for Vieria. In order get him we will have to be able to offer CL football and there is rumoured interest from other teams who may be able to offer more in wages and better opportunities for trophies so even if qualify for CL it wont be easy to get him. A top striker is imo a bigger priority and the biggest rumour there is Jovetic with some reports even saying we've already signed him. Either that or Pod can use the last few games this season to prove he is the answer now everyone else seems to be catching up with my views that Giroud is not good enough for us. With those 2 I think it could really make the difference to get us challenging for trophies again as we strengthened everywhere but those 2 positions recently.
Said it at the start of the season that he should be our first signing, I see no reason to change that thought.
Sadly he won't be coming to us, a friend is a scout at Chelsea and has been monitoring both him and Baines all season. The chavs are preparing a double bid in the summer.
I heard from a reasonable source back in Oct that he'd signed a pre-contract agreement with PSG, but you're right he would be a real asset for us...
Very good player, robust (doesn't get injured a lot despite his physicality), being watched by a number of clubs, at an optimal age, proven ability .... then again, Diaby will be fit by the new season ... so we won't be bidding for him. Seriously, he is amongst the few player who I would call immense for their teams. He was stand-out for Everton agaianst United ... can't think of any Arsenal players in recent times who've bossed a game against United like what Fellaini did. I thought we should have made a move for him beginning of this season. I would love to have him sign for us, but we'll get some cheap French league dross instead.
Saw him at Goodison and he single-handedly bossed Arsenal that day. He was the standout player by a country mile. Would LOVE him at Arsenal. I rate him very highly, but is he pretty enough for Arsenal? They probably have the best looking first 11 in the Prem.
I think Wenger will look for a replacement for Diaby this summer. Fellani wouldn't come cheap, but he would be an ideal placement in the middle of our MF. He's got bags of Premier league experience and refs seem to let him get away with mauling his opponents.
Whilst I think Fellaini is a decent player he can also be a liability. His disciplinary record has to improve dramatically in my opinion. He gets booked far too often.
The site I use has him valued at 28M pounds. I don't think that the transfer money is the big deal, and I think that we can offer him a pay rise from Everton. The only issue would be if City/United/Chelsea offer him 200K/week. Really, I don't think that the transfer fees are the big problem you all think they are. Arsenal have always been more worried about operating costs/wages. It is one of the reasons that the pot of transfer money keeps growing. We have the tranfer funds, just not the room in the operating budget, particularly if we have to up everyone's salary to the level of a new player coming in at 200K.
OK, let me try more slowly. We haven't ever paid 28M. Not because we don't have 28M, not because we don't want to spend 28M and not because we get outbid on the 28M. We don't spend 28M, because the kind of player that commands 28M in transfer fees, can also command 200K/week in salary.
