A former DUP council candidate has been sentenced to three years in prison for his involvement in a sectarian pipe bomb attack in Antrim.

The incident happened in October 2011.
John Smyth Junior, of Rockfield Heights in Connor, near Ballymena, was sentenced to three years in prison and five years on licence.

He admitted his part in making the pipe bomb after he was confronted with "overwhelming forensic evidence", but denied planting it.

The device was left at the home of a young Polish couple in the Steeple estate, just months after Smyth junior had run for election to Antrim Borough Council.

It did not go off and it was later defused.

The judge said the motivation for the attack was "naked sectarianism".

When I was a wee boy in Primary School my mum always used to make me wear a balaclava. Loads of the boys wore them.

Oh for a life of innocence.

Same here, only I think mine was a 1 holer for the eyes and in a rather fetching blue & grey colourscheme rather than the 3 holer and in terrorist black.

Ahhhh, Duffle coats as well with the wooden buttons, although they were more like longitudinal buttons (cannot for the life of me think what we did call them).

Actually, was it not togs or toggles.

Is it time to go home yet mum??

Mind you it all seemed a bit pointless when you had your shorts on in the middle of winter.

    Happy Days though.

Why did we have to wear shorts in December? I think pervy old teachers kept that tradition going.
