According to Twitter the u21s eclipsed the first team's achievement (of scoring an injury time goal to turn a draw into a win) by scoring two injury time goals to turn a defeat into a win. Two late goals by Joe Pigott added to an earlier one by Lennon for a 3-2 win. Very disappointed at no Twitter coverage on the OS. They used to at least announce the teams and sometimes a kick by kick commentary. Unless one of our posters went we will have to wait until tomorrow to know who played. I am guessing Hollands and Rouamba shared one DM spot.
Don't think they usually have coverage of Yoof games if the opposition are doing a twitter feed. Remember it being similar when playing Col U away Ipswich Town FC ‏@Official_ITFC 4h Button, Osborne, Feeley, Lennon, Fox, Gower, Cousins, Hollands, Jordan, Azeez, Pigott.
ITFC SP senior Player Aaron Lee Bennett SP, Elliot Hewitt, Tyrone Mings, Matthew Clarke, Patrick Kisnorbo SP, tom Gardiner, Jay Emanuel Thomas SP, Anthony Wordsworth SP, Jack Marriott, Byron Lawrence, Mark Timlin subs Michael Crow, Joe Robinson, Cormac Burke, Amir Birkane, Cory Galvin CAFC David Button, Harry Osborne, Morgan Fox, Kevin Feely, Harry Lennon, Jordan Cousins, Mark Gower, Danny hollands, Bradley Jordan, Ade Azeez, Joe Piggott subs Dillon Phillips, Jack Powell, Diego Poyet, Toby Sho Silva, Harry Goddard decent game with Charlton creating more chances on the night. ITFC no 7 Jay Emanuel Thomas and 8 Anthony Wordworth were a constant problem all game for our CBs and they did well to contain them. We looked more comfortable in possession going forward with good build across the pitch but for a lot of the game the final end product eluded us. Against the run of our game a couple of moments of lost composure in the 18 yd box resulted in them getting 2 goals. In fact they went 1-0 up at about 38mis and we quickly responded with a goal just before half time. 2nd half almost carbon copy of 1st once again we had the better game going forward but a lapse of concentration in the box resulted in a 2nd for ITFC . This time we responded with 2 quick goals late in the game to finish at 3-2 up and in my opinion deserved the result as well. Im sure the OS will have a more detailed match report up later
just realised I copied Harry G's surname directly off the team sheet as Goddard...sorry 'Bean' if you are reading this!
just got back from game, starting line up Pope Cousins Feely Lennon Fox Rouamba Wagstaff Jordan Hollands Azeez Piggott THe official referee had an absolute mare tonight, worst i have witnessed all season and most definitely had stripey blue underpants on!! Roumba conceded first penalty but the 2nd penalty again given against Roumaba was a. outside the box and b. Ball- to-hand, the ref was right on top of it but decided to award it BHA's way.
I didn't get it quite right, but I was on the right wavelength. Guessed Rouamba would be kind of "agricultural". Thanks for the report, Madadd. That result is a pisser. Now we have to beat Millwall at our place to win the title. Definitely doable as we won 2 - 0 at their place but they of all teams won't lie down for us. I would like to see all our best u21s in the team and leave out the likes of Wagstaff, Holland and Rouamba unless we need to plug a gap. Where were Ajayi and Osborne last night?
Have to agree with your observations re team set up etc, the game was ours for the taking last night, however, because of squad set up there were gaps in the midfield and therefore no link between back 4 and strikers, everything was route 1 to Azeez who was tasked with holding up and laying off and he was marked out all game, in my opinion Ade is not a hold up / lay off player, Piggot is much better suited to this role with Azeez running off him as was demonstrated again last night with the first goal, which was pure class from both Piggott and Ade combining. Unfortunately Rouamba didn't really get into the game last night and therefore they struggled with no defensive midfield, Poyet replaced Rouamba around 60+ mins into the game. Don't know where Osborne was last night might have picked up an injury in the last game Ipswich game? Ajayi was on bench and came on for last 10 mins at the back, - at the cost of Jordan in midfield who had been excellent all game- and Feely went up top! At the sake of repeating myself, the referee was appalling last night worst I have witnessed all season and his lack of judgement caused a potentially decent game to become a scrappy mess, at half time Jonesy was furious with his decisions and rightfully so in our collective, Charlton fan base opinion. Last night's game was not a good representation of how this squad play, a pure U21's squad would have wrapped up the league last night !
Maybe they are missing Harriott and Smith. While Azeez was on loan they played 3 up front, those 2 plus Piggott, with Smith and Harriott seemingly given license to roam all over the place causing defenders all sorts of problems. I wonder what role Colchester have been playing Smith? Whatever it is they've now dropped him. Looking forward to seeing how quickly Poyet progresses next season in the under-21's, and whether he makes a case for promotion beyond that.
This team would get the job done: Pope Osborne, Tully, Ajayi, Fox Harris, Jordan, Cousins, Harriott Azeez, Pigott What they would lose in experience and "bulk" with Hollands and Wagstaff they would more than make up in team spirit. If Osborne is unfit, then maybe Wilson at RB rather than move Cousins. We really need to sign an understudy to Solly at RB in the summer. It is one position we don't have an oustanding youngster coming through in the near future. Sign some 19 or 20 year-old who is doing well in Div One or (more likely) Div Two and who would be happy with an increased salary playing in our development squad for a year until Solly (inevitably?) moves on to better things.
ha ha I think Eddie means Feely, re understudy for Solly I think we already have one in Cousins, he looks quite natural at RB and gets up and down the pitch well. i know we have been playing him at the bo0ttom of the diamond but maybe Osborne would play well there, he was an excellent R CB in the U18's prior to injury and is now getting back to his old form
Indeed I do. Funny how the mind plays tricks when you are senile. Kevin Tully was a centre-half from an Irish family with whom I played as a teenager over 50 years ago! I would be embarrassed to reveal the standard but it was even lower than the Scottish top tier! Just looked up Charlie Tully and found he only got 10 full caps. How the game has changed!
So pleased to hear you think that. He was one of our brightest youngsters before we had heard of Ajayi or Feely. I feared his major injury had done for him like poor Ben Davisson. What did you think of Rouamba, by the way? Any potential there, or a lost cause? If the former we would need to be patient as it would be a major cultural change for him.
