Autosport reports that just a few days after Ferrari top brass said they would review the situation after Valencia, their technical director has been moved out to make way for Pat Fry.

    The all Itallian plan
    going down the pan
    Next will be stefano
    shown where to go

    The black stallion must win
yet this year thrown in the bin
    start fresh for 2012
    a championship, they could delve

With Fellipe Massa or Seb Vettel
whoever wants to proove thier metel
Against the Spainiard they say is king
To secure a crown the team is lacking

Well, quite. But will they replace one Italian team principal with another? One favoured by Alonso, perhaps?

Does Pat Fry use up their entire quota of team foreigners?

    Very creative El Bando!

But seriously, why the reshuffle? Seems like a bit of a knee jerk reaction to me.

This is also coming on the back of Abu Dhabi last year, when Chris Dyer was replaced by yer man there. He's fair carving his way through the midfield.

Also, you have to wonder whether the 5 year deal that Alonso signed has anything to do with this?

This has been rumoured in the Italian Media for about a month now that Fry was to replace Costa, but those stories mention Montezemolo's "restructuring" as replacing a lot more people, most notably Tombazis. Marco de Luca was rumoured to have already been replaced. I certainly hope Tombazis and others don't "resign", but with Costa no longer the Technical Director, I wouldn't be surprised if Luca di Montezemolo changes most of Ferrari's senior management team.

To me it seems that this is just part of Luca's long terms changes for Ferrari - Alonso until 2016, new Technical Director, maybe more changes in the coming weeks?

Most recently, rumours exist that Pat Fry is looking for new designers to strength the team, but this didn't really make sense until the news today that he is the Technical Director. One of those designers is Peter Prodromou - "Head of Aerodynamics" at Red Bull (I think he was also on the podium in Spain). This is all rumours at the moment, but the announcement today makes this sound very believable.

I sure hope Luca knows what he's doing. Changes were needed, but it seems that the only Ferrari employee with a stable fixed position (apart from himself) is Fernando Alonso. I have a very strong feeling that this won't be the last change for Ferrari in the coming months.

Domenicali's position is by no means stable, that's for sure.

However, I don't think Montezemolo would replace him, yet, at least not until the end of the year. Monty has to be careful not to make too many changes, otherwise he would have some explaining to do with Marchionne.

Flavio Briatore is a possibly replacement, but so is Sam Michael. Who knows what will happen?

Carno Ancelotti. Poor man kicked out for not winning the CL....

Anyway on topic back to F1..

Ferrari really need to sort things out. They have no pace at the moment and whether these reshuffles are doing anything to help I do not know. We will have to wait and see.

It's rumoured that a major (unnamed) designer from McLaren will move to Ferrari in 2012. Could be Goss or Lowe, but chances are it's just the Italian media bullshitting because Pat Fry's in charge now.

Still, its likely that the head of Aerodynamics at Red Bull will come to Ferrari - he worked with Pat Fry at McLaren.

Why would Ferrari want somebody from a team that always takes 6 races to get going? No change there then!

Of all the teams in F1, it is surely Ferrari who most resemble a football club…

This isn't worth a new thread, but some more news about Ferrari:

Ferrari have presented a letter to the FIA written by their lawyer Nigel Tozzi refuting the ban on their rear wing

Haven't read any F1 news today, so I don't know if this is already public news - but it's true.

I also read something on Autosprint which trys to offer more of an explanation as to why Costa was replaced. It says that Costa was asked to make the car extreme, daring and unconventional. As Technical Director, he leads the path of development and decided to make a conventional car - simply an evolution of last year's car, but with nothing innovative or extreme.

It also suggests (unless I am reading it wrong) that replacing Aldo Costa with Fry will put an end to the conservative approach.

Thanks, Forza. It helps make sense of the situation. They've been making noises in public about being more extreme for a few races so I guess Costa knew what the message was.

Here's an interesting rumour (in Italian) that gives an insight. Luca Di Montezemolo's decisions.

I don't believe it, but I'd love if it were true.

How will the Ferrari without Aldo Costa? What will change in the design of the car of the 2012 season Formula 1 that is emerging in recent weeks? Ask Pat Fry ! The fifty year old engineer will take care of Parma not more. E 'was intended to another appointment. Perhaps the same mysterious other office which is dealing with Chris Dyer. The photo above was taken at the penultimate race of 2010. Now it works in Ferrari . And it works as badly from 2008 to now, things have never straightened. Montezemolo, however, seems to have an ace up its sleeve: the return of Rory Byrne .
