Watching the Arsenal v Everton game (0-0), and just wondering what it would take for us to build a competitive team as David Moyes has so successfully achieved in his long standing tenure?
Solid foundation and then bring in the youngsters slowly ... My mate has made the bench against The Posh for Brighton tonight ... Great player Solly March as predicted he will go all the way to the top We have no foundation ... Must keep what we have and then bring in players like Solly
Ross Barkley certainly looks one for the future. Great player, breaking into the 1st team now, don't think there will be any more Championship loans for him.
Moyes is obviously a great manager by football's iffy standards. Having said that, whilst he's consolidated, he hasn't been able to progress that much either has he? Be interesting to see how he'd get on WITH funds behind him. As far as a consistent competitive side's concerned, you clearly need to be working from an established core of homespun or similar 'badge' players. That way incoming talent can't rock the boat so easily.
Food shopping analogy; You can grow your own, if you have the space/skill to do so, but it takes time and effort and a lot of patience. However you will get great food and you know exactly what it is you're eating. You can also shop in good quality outlets, but it takes time to discover where they are, and you have to trust that they will deliver consistent quality and not 'stick' you with rubbish when it suits them. Or you can try option 3, which is going for pre-packaged ready meals, 'fresh' or frozen, in your local chain supermarket; it's generally overpriced, poor quality, processed in a way that suits the seller and you have no idea what has been embedded in the products.
First, decide what you want to build - a solid team to get back up and survive, a cheap team, a flair team??? Then get a good architect and don't stray from his plans, that just adds cost and time. Hire the best craftsmen and labour available that you can afford, let them train up some apprentices on the way. Sit back and enjoy Oh and don't change the ****ing blueprint. Stability, stability, stability. Mourinho would suit.
The other day Moyes said right now he has the best bunch of players at his disposal that he has ever posessed, he has been at Everton 11 years! I know funds have not been there for him and he has had to sell some good players along the way but it shows you that if we are ever going to have a team as good as Everton it will probably take around 20 years based on where we are and that we will also need a larger stadium.
Everton is a strange club to want to replicate, after all they've been in the top flight for one of the longest periods along with Arsenal. There's no magic, they flirted with relegation a few times in the 90's, they didn't seem to over spend, but they did splash on occasions (£7M for James Beattie to name but one), they have great stability from the chairman down to the manager which goes a long way, a good fan base & a history with significant highs. I don't know what blueprint I'd recommend for Qpr, but I just hope HR pays back the loyalty he's been shown. A one season bounce could well help you rid the club of people you don't need, its certainly not the end of the world paying the Championship a visit.
